EDIUS X tip 1


Before installing EDIUS X temporarily disable your anti-virus/anti-malware.

Install EDIUS X

Restart your computer


Enable your antivirus software.

Check where you exclude folders in your anti-virus/anti-malware

Exclude the three folders:

1 C:\Program Files\Grass Valley

2 C:\ProgramData\Grass Valley

3 C:\Users\”your windows user name”\AppData\Roaming\Grass Valley




Since EDIUS X makes use of web display in some pallets I suggest that you permit connections in your firewall for the following 3 services:


1 C:\Program Files\Grass Valley\EDIUS X\XREAdminConsole.exe

2 C:\Program Files\Grass Valley\EDIUS X\EHRenderService\EHRenderServiceHost.exe

3 C:\Program Files\Grass Valley\EDIUS X\EHRenderService\EHRenderService.exe


Note: Starting with EDIUS X 10.30, paths 2 and 3 mentioned above have changed.


2 C:\Program Files\Grass Valley\EDIUS Hub\EH Render Service\EHRenderServiceHost.exe

3 C:\Program Files\Grass Valley\EDIUS Hub\EH Render Service\EHRenderService.exe

Basic Trimming

The fastest way to edit in EDIUS is to use a combination of the mouse and keyboard shortcuts. I try to keep my left hand on the keyboard and right hand on the mouse. I try to use as many of the shortcuts as I can possibly find without looking at the keyboard to find them, Everytime I have to look or have to use two hands for a shortcut, I am slowing down. Obviously, there are lots of keyboard keyboard shortcuts and people can customize them if desired. However the basic defaults work nicely.

There are 5 basic Trimming shortcuts:
1. C (Cut)makes a cut point. This is how you divide one clip into two. By default, the clip to the right of the cursor will highlight (turn white in the latest versions) if the Trim is successful.
2. N (Trim Left) trims left to the previous cut point. It will leave a gap.
3. M (Trim Right) trims right to the next cut point. It will leave a gap.
4. Alt N (Ripple Trim Left) trims left to the previous cut point. It will not leave a gap as all of the clips to the right of the Trim point will slide (Ripple) down to the left to close the
gap.
5. Alt M (Ripple Trim Right) trims right to the next cut point. It will not leave a gap as all of the clips to the right of the Trim point will slide (Ripple) down to the left to close the
gap.

Here's the real tip. Just as you learned to set your index fingers on the F and J keys as your home keys to learn to type, this is my recommendation for the home keys in EDIUS.
With you left hand:
1. Put your little finger on the Alt key.
2. Put you ring finger on the C key.
3. Put your index finger on the N key.

For C, type your ring finger.
For N, type your index finger.
For Alt N hold down your little finger and type your index finger
For M, with your index finger feel for the next key to the right and type.
For Alt M (Ripple Trim Right) hold down your little finger and then with your index finger feel for the next key to the right and type.

At first this may seem strange and you may make several mistakes (Ctrl Z is your friend!). But if you practice this for a week or so, you will start to develope muscle memory. Soon you will be flying through the timeline! After this becomes second nature, you will be able to start adding other shortcut keys into your repertoire based off of your new home keys hand position. Keyboard shortcuts without looking = speed.

When installing or uninstalling third-party plug-ins in EDIUS X it is best practice to pause the EDIUS render engine.

Steps:

1. Go the windows taskbar and look for the Render Engine Icon
2. Right click
3. Select pause

Don't forget to start the render engine again after you are finished installing or uninstalling the plug-in. :)
