  • Same HD file format out as in?

Just imported some footage from a XDCam EX1 into Edius cut it down to a couple of minutes, now want to export the clip to a file.

    Q. I want to keep the same quality, and the same file format out. Is this possible within Edius?

Q.If not which file format should I use for the highest quality? The end product is for eventually copying to say blu-ray, dvd etc.

    Q. What type of files are you guys exporting to?

    Thanks for your time.

Look at the last few posts on this thread if you are thinking of producing blu-ray compliant files: http://ediusforum.grassvalley.com/fo...?t=5120&page=2

According to Shueardm you can switch over to fullHD-OHCI and export from the timeline using Procoder 3 with one of the blu-ray presets.

Is this the finale answer for us who trust and using Edius software for a long time (12 year)?
That Thomson Crass Valley don’t support those of us who is using SONY PMW-EX1, this make me very disappointed and force me to look around after some other solution like Vegas 8 or Final Cut. Give us at least something to look forward to, so we don’t have to make some big investment in other software. It this a big issue to satisfied all of us who is using Edius as a major editing tool.

The question was asked if EDIUS could export EX1 formatted files. The answer is "not at the moment" - EDIUS can export to any number of HD MPEG-2 configurations, but presently there is no specific XDCAM EX exporter. The workflow in place makes the assumption that EX is more of an ingest/acquisition format, and the likely target format would be that of regular HD MPEG-2 (for something like Blu-ray). Or, you would use (as I suggested) Canopus HQ for archival, until a workflow/target format becomes available, that you would like to use.

EDIUS is continually changing and growing. So say it won't ever happen, is a very bold statement.

In all honetsy who will export back to the memory cards for archiving?

            Maybe Bill Gates ?

I do see a need for " ex native export" . But I think there are better cost effective alternatives'

I agree, archiving would be better if you just go back to a hard drive or a tape drive (or a Rev Pro, for example).

EX1 uses MPEG2 at 35mbps max, and EDIUS has a generic MPEG2 exporter which you can use to export to high bitrate MPEG2 for archiving purposes. One downside is that it doesn't support more than 2 channels of PCM audio, and I think EX1 does 4 channels (not sure about this one).
