De-Interlacing

I shot my video in DVC pro HD in 50p.

EDIUS has the option "always applying De-Interlacing" (or something like that)

1) What are the pros and cons of doing this?

Additionally, Sony DVD Architect has the option "reducing Interlace flickering"

2) What are the pros and cons of applying this? Should I do this in addition to (1)?

I think the option is for interlaced footage that you apply slo-mo to. If your video is really 50P then you should not deinterlace it because you would lose resolution and probably introduce other artifacts as well.

Reduce interlace flickering is for when you have fine detail in the DVD menu text and graphics, and you don't want them to twitter and flicker when you play your DVD on an interlaced TV. It basically applies a blur to reduce the effect. If your monitor is a CRT you might want to try this, because fine text and graphics do not play very well with interlaced displays.

I assume it's DVCPro HD 720p/50p. Why should you de-interlace progressive footage?
