Given that EDIUS only currently supports a maximum frame size of 1920x1080 and processes in 8-bit only, it'll take a bit of engineering to bring in RED ONE support.
That said, nothing is impossible - just not something that is likely to happen soon. Certainly not for EDIUS v4.x

Thanks for answer. Now I must buy Mac and FinalCut because our studio purchased Red One cameras. But if Edius does support RedCine codec and 10bit 4K format then I'll back to Edius for film editing. And I still editing in Edius for broadcast project of course... ;-)
Thank you for the support!
It's a different part of the company entirely, but I'd probably look toward Bones supporting something like Red before EDIUS does...
Similar to how After Effects supports film resolutions and Premiere, well...

I hope you guys can cook something up in time for Scarlet's release. It has just been confirmed that Adobe will have native support for R3D files (Scarlet will also use this) via premiere and after effects within a week. Avid is also beginning to take some type of steps to support R3D.
Things are starting to open up and the workflow is starting to mature. I would sure love to see an EDIUS/Scarlet workflow. But, at least there are beginning to be options for the PC now. This is good.

If Edius could cook up a proxy system for 3k, or even 4k use, it would be a big step forward for GV.
The way KH eluded to the Red One Camera support for Edius in and earlier post was very telling of the possibility. I don't see it happening anytime soon.
AND that is not the Canopus 'soon.'

We've been requesting more than just quicktime proxies for Scarlet... maybe we will get the ability to choose if we want quicktime or avi proxies in camera.... maybe that'll make things a bit easier.
It's cool... you guys still have about 9 months before Scarlet comes out to work something up :)

Your instinct serves you well. Red support is still a ways off.
I hope that there was an implied 'weedhopper' in that statement master KH.
Read previous post. 'Soon'....roughly translated, not 9 months but before armageden.
Just an old joke beat to death. Sorry KH.
The only way I can see you being able to use the footage is to capture it as 1920x1080 by way of either an SDI or HDMI solution and then import that into Edius. That then would make it either uncompressed, MJPEG, or QT depending on the capture card. Or capture to HQ by way of firewire.
The footage is useable, just not in native red format. While not what you want, it still will look fantastic.
Bye the way, did they mention an autofocus on the Scarlett? If it has autofocus, 3k, and the other normal features we are used to using.....for list of $3000, that would be a force to consider.
Scarlet will have full auto and full manual modes. The focus ring will be on the lens, and all that is known beyond that is that the iris and zoom will be on the back of the camera, and we're told "we'll be glad about it" :)
It will have a professional tool set, but will also be "amateur" friendly with full auto modes.
The last hurdle is the workflow. But, making the workflow accessible to the masses is high on the list of RED priorities as they expect to sell a lot of Scarlets. With SDK announced today, and native R3D support in Adobe, and avid announcing work on solutions (that will eventually be native, but not initially), things are really starting to open up and it's obvious where things are headed.
Oh, and Scarlet will be available (we're told in ample quantities upon release) direct from RED or via professional dealers like perhaps spec-comm, abel, b&h, etc... but not best buy :)
I won't hold my breath for EDIUS support, but it would be nice :) They have a pretty good track record of having broad format support and implementing it sooner, rather than later. But, there will be several options by the time Scarlet rolls around. RED intends to sell a lot of these, which is why the price is only 3k... and I'll go out on a limb and say right now that this camera will likely be much more popular upon release than a lot of people realize. This isn't like buying a red. This is a ready-to-shoot-out-of-the-box camera. Just buy cf cards, and charge the battery.
Now, maybe I'm a bit biased as the co-admin of scarletuser dot com :) check out some of the latest renders if you haven't seen 'em.

That I will believe when I see it. Too much announcements in the past that could not be fulfilled.

You can count on it being available from other professional vendors. I'll eat my sock if it isn't :)
Ample quantities... well that will depend on your definition, and yes... we shall see. I'm sure demand will outstrip supply initially, but that's nothing out of the ordinary in the first months of release with other hot cameras like the HVX, EX1, etc.
I see no point to the 4K or 3K as yet.
Where will these be shown?
What medium will they be on?
I have a Red One with 300MM T2.9 + 18-85MM T2.9 ZOOM + 25MM T1.9 Very good but always down converting for viewing on other Mediums.
However, I hate the Final Cut Pro for editing, so I hope the Edius gets their act together soon or they will be confined to a Pro-sumer and Consumer customer base, which is now getting very competitive.

I forgot to add, I only know of a few 2K digital movie screens around.
