  • How to select only video or audio in “PLR” windows?

Thank you for answering this question. I've had a lot of small problems recently.

How to select only video or audio in “PLR” windows?,Drag into the timeline.I try to select the small icon on the left of the screenshot as video icon or speaker icon. After dragging it into the timeline, it's still audio and video together, not separated. Is this a software bug or a mistake in my operation?I just want to choose video or audio alone.000.jpg

    Hi:

If a patch is set in the track headers for video (or audio) in the timeline, the clip-track (video/audio) will be transferred to this track when inserting/overwriting.

    Workaround for your problem:
    Variante-1:
    - Ignore the video/audio selection-icons in the PLR window.
    - Set the audio patch in the corresponding track-header (e.g. 1A).
    - Do not set a video-patch.
    - Drag the clip from the player window to the timeline (or use keyboard shortcuts or click on the corresponding buttons in the timeline (if you have defined them before via Preferences > User Settings > ...) ).

    Variante-2:
    - Ignore the video/audio selection-icons in the PLR window.
    - Do not set any patch in any track-header !!.
    - Drag the clip from the player window to the timeline-track you want:
--- If you drag into an audio-track, then only audio will be affected.
--- If you drag into an video-track, then only video will be affected.

    Hint:
    - If you have set only an audio-patch and drag from PLR to a video-track - both clip-tracks will be placed in the timeline.
    - If you have set only an video-patch and drag from PLR to an audio-track - both clip-tracks will be placed in the timeline.
// For more informations you should read the corresponding pages in the manual (or - better: make some tests with some combinations of patches).

    See screenshot.

Thank you. I think your method is very effective. The user manual looks very tired because there is no Chinese. What is the meaning of the audio and video Icon in my screenshot? It feels like a decoration,It didn't work.

Is it not expected behavior? The track patch dictates where things go. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are explaining?

    Hi Steve:
It is a bit strange in that:
    1. if a patch is set, then it has priority. OK.
    2. if no patch is set at all, then I can drag the clip to a video track OR to an audio track - exclusive: only in that track the clip(part) appears.
    3. if I select the video or audio icon in the PLR and have no patch set in the TL header, I have the same behavior as 2.

This raises the question: when does it make sense to select a special icon (video, audio or both) in the PLR?
Selecting a special icon in PLR makes sense if I want to set different IN/OUT points for video and audio, for example. See screenshot.

OK: In this case the answer to the question asked in OP could be:
    - "The track patches dictates where things go". // Not the selection of the video/audio-icon in the PLR.
    - If e.g. for video and audio different IN/OUT points are to be set, then a corresponding selection of the respective icon in the PLR is to be made.
Hint: Dragging the mentioned icon in the OP doesn't transfer the clip into the TL at my EdiusX.

    // Is this answer OK?

Please do a search here. I have explained several times how the track patches work andwhat you have to be aware of if you drag instead of using the insert/overwrite buttons (which is the desired way)

Do you mean me (kpot, kurt) or the OP ?
// If you mean me: I know very well how this work, but english is not my native language and so it may happen that my explanations are not so perfect translated.

since you use VA tracks, have a look at this old tutorial I did in EDIUS6, it is still the same in X

Thank you for your reply. It's successful as you said. I really don't know what that icon is for. Is it beautiful?
