  • Canon XF705 & Edius X (HEVC playback)

A year ago I created a thread named Canon XF705 & Edius 9 which discussed the fact Edius 9 could not deal with playback in the timeline Canon XF705 4K 10 bit HEVC files

A year later I've updated my PC to an i9 with 32 gig ram and a Geforce RTX 2070 Super and playback is still not in realtime.

I'm sure I have Quick Sync enabled? Where do I check this?

    Thanks

You enable the decoder in the Edius Settings > System Settings > Importer/Exporter > HEVC. Enable the check mark on use hardware decoder.

That said, there is no information posted about your system.

What i9 processor do you have?
Does it have an intel GPU core in it? (the intel GPU is the quick sync engine)
Do you have a monitor hooked up to the onboard intel GPU (you need to do this to enable the GPU core to function correctly)
Is the intel GPU enabled in your BIOS?
Is the intel GPU primary or secondary? (you may need to swap roles)
Have you loaded the intel GPU driver that came with your motherboard? (don't us the windows built in generic driver, and don't use the newest one available online, they often don't work. It's best to stick to the one that came with your motherboard)

If all of that is in place, the quicksync decoder/encoder should work.

I have a second-hand R9 5950x gtx1050 and a second-hand i9 9960x vega64 computer. When decoding h265(4K 10bit 420 100Mbps From Dji Mavic2 Pro), the normal playback of 9960x is not smooth, and the playback speed of 5950x is not smooth after it is adjusted to 140%,Although these two computers were not purchased for EDIUS, I didn't expect that the performance of h265 was so bad.but there is a very good news that EDIUS will launch version 10.20 to support more graphics acceleration,Official reply on YouTube. If yes, EDIUS should be the best editing software for windows.

Neither one of those systems have QS. It is common knowledge that Z series systems are best for avc encoded files.

The i9-1234X series are faster than the 19-1234K series but do not contain the Intel UHD 630 embedded Graphics module and therefore there will be no Quick Sync available.

For interest this video explains how you would go about it with the correct CPU.

The processor you have is an LGA2066 socket whereas the K series use the LGA1200 socket, so to get Intel Quicksync would need a new motherboard preferably a Z590 chipset which gives more usable PCIe slots than the Z490 chipset which has poor provision for PCIe 8 and 4 lane expansion slots, but the Z590 chipset boards are more expensive, and it depends whether you want to plug in any other cards or not, such as Black Magic Design or AJA.

If you are using it with Edius X just be patient and wait until future developments are announced with GPU encoding and decoding but that has to be with an NVidia GPU not an AMD one to get all the features.

          Regards

It is said that AMD rx6000 Series graphics card has better decoding performance than NVIDIA, and the coding performance may be a little poor. But it's good for consumers to support more graphics cards,It's said that GV company is very powerful and monopolizes many TV stations. It should have the strength to do this.

Ok, That does have an intel UHD630 in there, so if the rest is in place your quicksync should work.

Yes, QSV supports very limited formats, including the 11th generation core graphics card, NVIDIA amd GPU, and I haven't seen one that can hard decode 4:2:2 and sample

Do you have a camera file available to download? I can test it with the new Intel Xe graphics engine which has a new version of the QS processor.

Hello, the 11th generation core graphics card doesn't support. When I went to the computer store to buy a computer again, I tested it with their i7 1165g7, which doesn't support 10bit 4K 4:2:2 hevc. I didn't buy it again. The test computer was the trial version of ediusx 10.10.7056 working group

Here is what I saw on Gen 11 QS support:
Version 8 (Tiger Lake, Rocket Lake)The Tiger Lake (microprocessor) & Rocket Lake adds VP9 12-bit & 12-bit 4:4:4 hardware decoding and HEVC 12-bit 4:2:0, 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 hardware decoding. Gen12 Xe will also support native AV1 decode, which includes 10-bit 4:2:0 16K stills and 10-bit 4:2:0 8K, 4K and 2K video. Hardware encoding for VP8 was dropped and hardware decoding is only available on Tiger Lake.

Iris Xe should still be a semi-finished product at present,I've always been confused about this. Before I went to the computer store, I saw that the parameters of the unofficial website support hevc 4K 4:2:2, but the official website of Intel didn't find the details. When I Use Ediusx played back the (h265 4:2:2 ) flock of sheep video , the core graphics card did not have hardware decoding. I've also tested potplayer, and it's still the same.Maybe the Intel Xe DG2 graphics card will let EDIUSX support decoding.

An XF705 short clip uploaded here would be useful

What i9 CPU is it as a matter of interest?

Canon have now made lower frame rates available with a firmware update for H264 but no 50/60p yet. Premiere Pro and Da Vinci Resolve still have problems in HEVC 4K 60p with playback. It seems a little short sighted of Canon to release a camcorder with a recording format that most editing software struggles to playback without an alternative.

GV are usally fairly quick off the mark including new camcorder codecs into Edius, although HEVC isn't really a new camcorder codec, it is a generic codec.

Hardware acceleration should be the way that Quick Sync shows up in the Edius Exporter.

No. My system doesn't have QS with HEVC decode. In an earlier post, I did say that even systems with HEVC decode had problems playing the file.
Have you tried converting the file in the bin to HQX? I believe my system could play the file after conversion.

Can you post a short sample for testing. There are those that have the 10850-900k that might be able to push it. Also, the 11900k is releasing soon.
