  • Moving clips from VA track to V & A

This might be a basic question, forgive me, as I have not done any editing for some time.

I have opened an old edit, which I want to improve. I had used a single VA track. I now want to use use separate V & A tracks.

Is there a quick way to grab all the clips on the VA track and split them to say V1 and A1?

I am using Edius 8.53 WG

    UPDATE:

I have managed to do it, but there might be a better method, please let me know if there is a better way?.

I moved the V and A track patches to the tracks I want to use. I lassoed all the VA clips and unlinked them. Once unlinked, I then lassoed the video tracks and moved them up to a V1 track. I did the same for the audio tracks and then re-linked them.

    Hi:
Caution: Separate V- and A-tracks cannot be (re-)linked, but only grouped.
// However, from my point of view it would be very desirable to be able to link the related clip parts as well.

Although linking is pretty much the same as grouping. Sometimes when I move a clip from a va to a v track I loose the audio so I tend to lasso the lot, copy the video to the v track then copy the audio to the audio track and then delete the va track but pretty much the same as you have done.

Sorry, but IMO there is a significant difference:

        Example-1:
        - Three clips in a VA-track, linked.
        - Now select all clips and group it: All individual clips remains linked with their original partner and all that grouped clips build one Group.
        - Now ungroup that one Group: This one Group is separated into the original three clips but the individual clips stays linked.

        Example-2:
        - Copy the three clips into separate V- and A-tracks: Link has been replaced by grouping by Edius.
        - Now select all clips and group it: Now all clips (Video and Audio-parts) are grouped together into one group.
        - Now ungroup that one Group: All the Clip-parts are ungrouped - but the individual clip-partners stay not more grouped.

IMO: The reason is because Edius only allows "flat" grouping and does not allow "nested" grouping (or with other words: hierarchical versus non-hierarchical grouping)..

all you need to do is copy and then paste twice as already mentioned by David
right click V track + paste
right click A track + paste

Or just copy to the audio track and mute the audio in the VA track. At least then you can still get back to the synced audio if you mess up the audio on the audio track.

Thank you for the suggestions. Anton, your method seems the quickest way.

As I said that was an early edit, my newer projects don't have a VA track any more.

As I have said before I like VA tracks. My view is that if there is audio with video it is in a VA track. If it is video without audio, titles or stills it is in a V track if it is just audio in an A track. I NEVER use the audio in the VA track. VA track audio is ALWAYS muted. But it is always available to check sync or even get sync audio if the audio on the copied A tracks have been moved for some finger trouble ! To me it is what makes EDIUS somewhat unique and complements my view of multicam in EDIUS.
