  • edius and storm 2 no sound from timeline

just uninstalled prem 6.5 and have not formatted the system drive but installed edius 4.51 and there is no sound from the timeline

i had sound from prem but now can only hear sound if i play back via the playback monitor on edius

    what have i done wrong??

also can i edit with edius in hd and still keep the storm card in

do you have an amp and speakers connected to the audio out of the storm?

also, be sure your project setting is set to a storm profile and not OHCI

also, make sure the storm drivers are installed, if not, you won't see a storm profile

you can edit HD by selecting generic HDV OHCI, this bypasses the storm card

What project setting are you in? If you're in a hardware project setting (not OHCI) then sound output will come from the selected hardware. Otherwise it will use the system sound device.

          still no sound from timeline

thanks for the answers but so far i still cannot get sound from timeline.
i have set up edius 4.51 with storm 2 and all drivers have been installed but even if i set the output as canopus, still no sound, so i then installed edius on a machine with no storm and just a firewire in and still no sound
          what i am doung wrong?

i have tried many different configurations with no luck

does the VU meter move when playing timeline?

do the clips on timeline show a waveform? is the audio enabled or muted on the left of timeline?

can we see a screen shot of your project settings

            example

do i have a compatibilty conflict or what am i doing wrong

here are two screen shots one of the initial project settings and the other a full layout shot

i do not get any vu meter showing on either the play or rcrd monitors

Sound problems with Storm are almost always one of two problems.

                1. Do you have the aduio out of the storm physically connected via a 1/8" plug to the audio in of your sound card.
                2. Check in windows audio settings and make sure your audio in is not muted.

as clearly seen by your timeline screen shot, your video clip is missing the audio clip

here is a screen shot of a video clip that has audio and is showing a waveform

also, as seen by your project settings, you are missing the storm drivers, I can only see OHCI

Tried the same but the OP is not really trying the suggestions.

And is will be real hard hearing audio if it is not there.

                        Steps:
                        1 reinstall Edius.
This will install the lastest storm drivers.
2 Now you will see storm hardware presets in the preset list.
3 Select a storm preset for your project
4 Put a clip with audio on the time line
(because it is impossible to get any audio out if there is no audio on the timeline)

If you select an ohci preset there is no way you will get audio out of the storm.
You need the have a storm preset out of the storm.
I also want to bet that you get no video out of the storm also because the drivers are not installed.
Really simple no drivers for the storm = No working storm because xp will not know what to do with the device.

                        Hope this helps.

so mr bill thanks for that answer but i would like to know how you configured your comp to get the two of them working well as so far i am still a bit lost

i have managed to get the tv output and sound from timeline by opening a clip but if i move the clip on the timeline up or down i lose sound but video is still fine
even if i put it back on the same v track it will not play sound but vdo is fine

also do i need to install storm video to capture as i see if i try to use edius on the storm bay it only gives s-vdo or composite

how do i capture with edius with the firewire via storm 2

Well, I am lost as to why you have such problems.

                              I installed XP SP2 fresh,
had the DVStorm 2 card already connected to my MB,
                              installed my sound card drivers,
                              then restarted windows,
installed the latest drivers for my video card,
                              then restarted windows,
                              installed Edius 4,
                              then restarted windows,
                              updated to 4.6.
Then went ahead and installed any other applications....

Did NOT install any of those old drivers (as Edius has the latest)
You only need Edius or DVCapture to Capture.

That's all l did, works extremely well.
When all else fails, save all data and reinstall XP.

                              Bill
