Edius X: Very, very slow waveform creation!
Collapse
X
-
please note that waveform generation is much slower in X compared to 9 and earlier -
are you transferring the files from card to PC via source browser, if so, waveform generation will take forever due to an EDIUS bug with all versions EDIUS, because EDIUS tries to generate waveforms by reading the card prior to transferring
to overcome this is easy, see attached

(at the same time, waveform generation from Sony A7S3 files is noticeably faster)Leave a comment:

....it was 2022.....version of edius x - 10.32.8648.... waveform generation is a terribly slowly, maybe I missed something and there is already a solution to the problem? (Files from Canon C300 & C70 - 48000Hz 24bit 4ch)Leave a comment:

Today it seems that Edius X is solid and stable, never a crash with some very intensive tasks (plus auto saving every minute!) and this is a great goal. The dedicated export engine works great too and allows you to keep on working on your project saving a lot of time when you have several exporting tasks and you need to refine your timelines.
Lots of effects, tools to enhance a poor audio are certainly welcome, though I hope Edius developers will keep on improve the main engine. I put my trust in them.

actually we have same problem here
we work on 1 gb lan with shared drivers, using h264 files, and waveform creation really slower then in edius 9.
sometimes waveform looks glitchy, not real etc. this is a HUGE problem with EDIUS X
working with sound - is really annoying
(waveform in preview window - thing that i'm waiting for 5 years.... maybe this is impossible... =( )

I am guessing that development is slower because of Corona causing engineers to work from homeLeave a comment:

I hope they'll fix it asap. You know, using two different releases of Edius for a given job goes beyond imagination... I'm still using the reliable v.9.54 on which I ingest, cut and print so I'll just wait for a build E10 that will work as it is supposed to do.Leave a comment:

you can always open the project in EDIUS 9 and let it create the waveforms, then close it and open it in XLeave a comment:

Sadly, still no fix for the slow waveform creation process within the last 10.10 release.
I hope developers could have scheduled this improvement for the very next build, as Eng editors generally need to cut speeches or interviews first, soon after footage ingesting so that a quick visual reference for audio trimming is always a time saving feature.
Please!...

Ok, new hardware, old issue, as expected.
Simply put: with older Edius I wouldn't probably have enough time for screenshotting that.
The waveform files creation slowness in Edius X must be fixed with absolute priority.

Yes, keeping in account that my projects usually include thousands of clips and mine is not the most powerful laptop around, that's exactly what I'm complaining about Edius X.
The question is: could having both versions installed affect tasks like wf creation in some way?
I'll make a single clean installation on my desktop as soon as the new MO.BO. comes, the old chipset does not deal with AVX2, so it's a matter of hours...
Anton, let me tell you: you're gold! ??

Hi, we choose both workflows, it is basically a matter of how many editors are employed in a given video service organization. Different suppliers for broadcasters use different storage solutions, in my case, being a single worker who shoot and edit on field I rely on my local laptop storage, fast enough to quickly ingest, edit and export (or convert) my XDCAM HD files. On a weekly basis I empty my laptop SSD soon after copying all the XDCAM folders on a simple removable drive that I use as a long term storage. Others do this on a network shared server allowing files access to several computers and editors at the same time if needed, so workflows depends upon how different jobs are organized and scheduled. Broadcasters are the owners of everything we shoot and edit, so, basically, once they have the original footage we could erase everything from our storage but, you know, there's always need for stock footage about the main events. Then a long term archiving in any possible way is very useful and time-saving.Leave a comment:
