    YouTube now uses AV01/MP4 codec & Edius can't read it.

    YouTube switches over to the AV01 codec now for resolutions over 1080p. It appears to have dropped H265/MP4. Edius cannot understand this codec. Microsoft will supply a codec for their Films and TV player which doesn't work well as it stutters, but the latest version of Pot Player plays it OK.

    Is this a codec that needs adding to Edius? Encoding? (exporting)

    The article says Netfix have gone that way too.

    That article is from 2019 and the current specs 2020 say that YouTube still supports :

    • HEVC (h265)
    AVI looks promising . I will see if I can get some information what the Plans are for EDIUS. I have to say that we often don't comment on future developments. :)

      Two weeks ago, I uploaded a 4K h.264 mp4 film to Youtube that was made in Edius. This is the format I have always used for 4K to Youtube. It worked just fine

        the OP is not concerned about uploading to YT
        he appears to be concerned about YT downloaded av01 files not opening in EDIUS

          Correct Anton. A number of people only have the Wetransfer free account and if the video is bigger than 2GB they upload it to YouTube.

          To Barry C YouTube still accept H264/265 but are looking at more efficient file sizes on their servers. Obviously larger pixel count frame sizes UHD/4k, 8K take up much more space so anything they can do to reduce by up to 30% their storage requirements makes a huge difference on running costs.

          YouTube and Netfix have decided to switch to AV01 codec to achieve this above 1080p resolution.

          The problem Barry comes when we download that posted up UHD clip as it comes in with the AV01 codec which is supported in Windows 10 (with the downloadable codec from Microsoft) but not supported in Edius.

          My video club vice chairman is Apple based and the says the Apple community are facing the same issue, as Quick Time doesn't recognise the AV01 video files nor therefore does iMovie or Final Cut X

          BTW There are 5 members including me (I am the chairman) on Edius in the club and it has a 50% split Apple to Windows, I use Edius for my business and for my hobby.

            When you download the files, are you aware that the download isn’t the original uploaded files?

            No matter what codec is used for the upload file the download wouldn’t be the same file, even if AV1 was used for the upload.

            That being the case, whatever benefits a smaller file size may have will be negated by the drop in quality of the transcode at YouTube.

            There’s only one way to download the original uploaded file but that is only for the person who has the account login, not for anyone who is sent a link, private or unlisted.

            If you don't know the difference between Azimuth and Asimov, then either your tapes sound bad and your Robot is very dangerous. Kill all humans...... Or your tape deck won't harm a human, and your Robot's tracking and stereo imagining is spot on.

                I only ask as you’re question was asking about AV1 compatibility with Edius. If this way of file sharing is so you can share clips to be edited, again I assume this because you’re asking about Edius compatibility. Then you and anyone else who you share the files with in this way will be using massively degraded files by the time they are finally exported from any NLE.

                    A lot of YouTube videos after downloading are mkv which at the moment edius dosent supported
