Exporting from Edius for YouTube

From your experiences, what is the best route to export a DV timeline for use on YouTube (320 x 240).

I don't see mp4, the YouTube preference, listed in Procoder Express, so I'm wondering what my best option is.

get Tmpeg 4 Xpress

1. export timeline to canopus HQ

2. open the HQ file in T4 and select DivX template, set to 640x480 and 1300kbps for video and 64 for audio

DivX is the preferred format by google for conversion to flv

You Tube Video

You can upload an avi file to youtube, nothing special to do. Then youtube will size it etc. Go to this site for help.

YouTube is always 4:3.
If your project is 16:9 , be sure to change your Project Settings to 4:3 before export for proper letterboxing.

I've had it with YouTube and spend way too much time on vimeo

I ended up exporting the timeline as DV and using Vegas to encode it to mpeg 4 at 320x240.

Rusty, thanks for the suggestion of Vimeo. I had not seen that before and think I will be using it for future projects. This particular video they wanted specifically on YouTube and I had not used it before.

I always use Procoder Express to output the timeline in mp4.

Output Quicktime file, choose mpeg4, h.264, and as size the 320x240.

Of course! Why didn't I think of finding .264 in the Quicktime exporter - duh!

Rusty, thanks for the suggestion of Vimeo. I had not seen that before and think I will be using it for future projects. This particular video they wanted specifically on YouTube and I had not used it before. Tom

vimeo is such a breath of fresh air for internet video. All user-created video, no porn, rarely negative comments. Even better than the original Stage6 site. (which turned to junk and is now gone)

They host all Flash9 HD and SD footage. You can download the original file and best of all... you can embed the SD flash in your website.

To stay on topic I edit in Edius, export .m2t w/SpeedEncoder and convert to .mov w/Streamclip. I used to use Quicktime Pro, but it's so lame with 16:9 footage!

btw, the instruction on youtube about how to create videos is how it was done in the 90's, all instructions are unclear and totally wishy washy :)

it goes to show that they know nothing about video, and there is such a thing as 16:9 that they have yet to discover
