  • GRAFIC CARD - official recomendation ???

Can anybody recomned me a grafic card for new PC ???
    (I want to try Gigabyte X48-DQ6 + 4core Q9450 + DVSTORM 2 .)

I dont wan't to buy quatro 1500 - of course if it is not necessary.

My idea was 8800GT but there are some negative complaints.

    Its Nvidia mainstreem for now.
What is official Canopus statment about that issue ???
Will this card be supported in the future or not ???
Or is ti better to buy ATI. Which of them 1950, 2600XT, or HD 3850, HD 3870 or 9600GT

Which is more user friendly in operation (ATI or NVIDIA)

Is it possible to use their support for HDTV and see overlay video on HD TVset???
(In the same way as i can watch movie from Windos media player on the HD TV set.)
I know that picture on it will not look like as good as on the profesinal monitor conected to NX component HD output. But for low budget home wedding studio it may be sufficient.

My Vote goes for the 2600XT. Its Realtime with Xplode Plug-in and everything else seems to work perfectly in SD.

But as of right now there are no known benchmarks that I know that the users have put together a shoot out on really which is "the best" card.

The Official "Grass Valley" Supported card is the Quatro 1500 (since this is what they us in turnkey systems)

Here is the official word from Grass Valley on Graphics Cards and hardware

Yes, in SD it is ok, very far from good.
Romigo, I have 8800GT- it is great card. It is working perfectly with everything, but Xplode fpr Edius/Pro. There are no nvidia-based cards that working in realtime in Xplode (I am talking about PCI-E cards). 2600 is budget card- for office use and Internet- email usage. You need at least 256bit card, such as 1950 Pro/XT (if you want ATI that works with Xplode realtime- 512mb memory will be better) for comfortable work.
But if you want to see the power of videocard in action, try with Vitascene- then you'll see the difference! Edius is working even on my laptop with Intel video chip, which is not a videocard at all, it will work on any card. Only with 8800GT I got very good resaults in Vitascene, Boris RED etc. And also overlay quality on nVidia cards is much better.
Xplode is gone- no more support and it will not work under Vista... Don't make mistakes- look in the future, get nVidia, but do not take mortgage to get Quadra's- it is only for heavy 3D rendering- it will not give you any benefits for editing or effects.

Well it just goes to show, I dumped my 8800GTX as it will not work in "Direct draw" mode with CanopusHQ in HD, ok in SD and this makes it impossible to use other programs such as Smartsound and Boris certainly did not like it in HD.
        Must be my system
I have tried an ATI 2600 Pro 512Mb and it worked as sweet as a bird, so, I mortgaged the house and tried an ATI FireGL V7600 which is still in my machine but may soon be replaced by the 2600, 10 times the price and only half as good when used with Xplode, even Boris does not accept it properly

So right now with the 8800 you have to give up a major portion of Edius? Since I can't even have rendering work properly in Xplode Pro.

One Question. Do you have rendering errors in Xplode Pro? Take a 3D object effect and tell me what happens.

Also Vitascene is far off from what Xplode Pro is. Boris FX is much closer but it is a beast... I find Xplode to be very user friendly and a great addition to Edius and will be sad to see it go.

What part of Xplode, the truly useable effects, make it far off from Vitascene. Once you get into the setups of each effect you can make many different versions in Vitascene. Do you own Vitascene? Or, are you basing it on the demo video?

              Jerry,

from what I can see Vitascene is ONLY for total graphic effects. Light Rays, Film effects, Grain.

While Xplode has some of these its the - Page Peels, 3D picture in Picture, Incorporating 3D Graphics. This is what I'm talking about.

I have been playing with the Demo of RED. Its very complex. It goes way overboard. The problem that we have today is our editing systems have SO much stuff its not organized correctly.... buttons on buttons.... Pull down menus curves.

THAT is why Edius is so Great. The way it handles Bloat.

Based on that, I have to surmise that you do not own the program.
I have wipes, warps, splits, burns, etc. Each effect is keyframeable and able to be manipulated to what you might want. Also, those effects can be used within Premiere or AE to include alpha for titles. Do that with Xplode!

You do not need Xplode for page peel or 3d pip. Those are included in Edius anyway. I do use Xplode, but it is not the end all for all things. Especially, on buying hardware.

                  Please CONCLUSION for NVIDIA 8800GT!!!

                  1. - Does the overlay work properly bouth in SD and HD ??? (with DVSTORM2 card)

                  2. - Do the native 3D efects (some also called XPLODE) that are build in Edius work O.K. ??? (not XPLODE PRO)

                  3. - Can I use TV output (SVHS or HDMI) to see the edited video on the second monitor ot TV set ???
(overlay - theatre mode or full screen overlay) ???

                  4. - Is it the best choice (if I get over the loss of XPLODE) for now
or its better to get ATI
                  - 1950,
                  - 2600XT
                  - HD 3850, HD 3870

                  5. - What more can I get if I buy FX1500 ??? What I lose if I dont?
