Hase anyone exp. NX using RAM - and lots of it???

Hi!

If I remove my NX card from my PC, bios counts 3 Gb of Ram - which is the correct amount.

If I mount the NX, doesn´t matter in which slot, RAM drops til 2,4Gb!!

That´s 600 Mb of RAM gone bye-bye... Have anyone experienced anything like this?

Address ranges above the 2GB mark are often used for hardware I/O.
Thus, adding hardware peripherals can limit the amount of RAM above 2GB that the system can see.

If your BIOS has memory remapping via hardware or software, you can try enabling those - but be forewarned that in some cases setting this incorrectly can cause the system to fail booting and you will need to clear the CMOS using the jumper on the motherboard.

In 32-bit OS, access of RAM beyond 2GB is not guaranteed, so it depends entirely on the system configuration, including all peripherals.

I think I can remap in bios, I will try it out right away and let you know ´bout the results.

The ultimate solution would be to move to a 64-bit platform, enabling access 8Gb of RAM, but then we´re back at waiting for Edius 5 again ;)

OK, remapping was possible. At start a very positive experience, since bios counted all my RAM. The downside was when XP launched, and only 2 Gb of RAM was recognized instead of 2,4 before.

So, I´ve turned it off again and will wait until Edius and NX goes 64-bit...

At least now you know what to do before you install x64... :)

For the old or nostalgic, a similar thing happened back in DOS when RAM capacities exceeded 1 MB... Back then a window of memory was set aside and the extra RAM was paged in and out of that window.

A similar thing still happens today with virtual memory, except that's paged between RAM and disk, instead of RAM and RAM.
