  • Analog external TV monitor output

    In editing videos, RT output to external TV Monitor is fundamental.
    Because you can get the right color temperature, the right positioning behaviour on screen of graphics, PiPs, titles and DVD menus.

    From Edius, with a NX/Strom/Raptor card you can get analog live output to monitor; and with a OHCI DV card you can RT output live to monitor (with a small time-lag) using a DV-to-Analog decoder (like ADVC Canopus box).

    That's fine.

    Anyway, in my opinion, RT live output to external monitor should be achieved all the time from anywhere:
    1)from timeline;
    2)from QuickTitler;
    3)from thirdy party applications;
    4)from Edius DVD creator;

    Point 1): the situation is fine: everything works like a charm.

    Point 2) the situation is so and so fine: if you create from the timeline (T button) in any track a title with QuickTitler you don't have live output to external monitor.
    Instead, if you create a title with QuickTitler from the Bin, you get a charm, even blurry, live output to external monitor.
    Probably, this is a known issue of the last Edius release and possibly might be solved.
    By the way, the famous TitleMotion does not offer live output at all, and this is history unsolved and unchanged over the years.

    Point 4) the situation is quiet good thanks to plugins for Max, Maya and so on.

    Point 4) Edius DVD creator has no live output to external monitor at all. There's no way to preview menus, chapters and footage to an external monitor from it. You only can get a small and wacky preview VGA window offering erratic behaviour in color temperature and screen positionings.

    So, I'm speaking about RT live output to external monitor to be achieved in every funcion of Edius, not only while editing from the timeline.

    Anyone can add own suggestions?

    Thanks again to everybody reading.

    I think there is something Really wrong with your setup.

    I have live output for both Tmpro and Quick titler from the timeline.

    Quicktiltler has a preview switch if you want to preview on high res when in typing.

    On point four of dvd creator are you serious?

      Live output was restored for titling applications in more recent updates - ideally you should be running a minimum of 4.54.

      Live output for DVD Creator is a good idea - go ahead an suggest it in the feature request forum!

        What does advc110 use to output to analogue monitor?

        Technically speaking what method does edius,premiere, ulead use to output live video through firewire to the external monitor. I don't think it is direct show. If I knew this I might be able to get other video programs to work with it. I use specialist video programs using some type of directshow and don't expect them to be supported by the advc110 in preview mode.

        Another workaround would be a live fullscreen playback on my monitor through an advc110 - any solution for that?

        Or simply how to output directshow via firewire in windows? I know it is possible with Apple

        Windows XP/Vista

          I rather you guys spend the resourses making Edius a better editing program than making it a better dvd authoring program, but if you are going to do it, then do it right, full Blu-ray authoring, motion menus importing chapters...and all that, to be honest, I think I open that DVD creator once and never open it again.
          To the op, Steve is right, something is wrong with your setup.

            It's right to wish better Blue-Ray authoring features and HD video related things improved, but let's consider the opportunity to work with a NLE software capable to output video from anywhere: from timeline, from DVD authoring section and so on...

            Being able to watch on a real tv monitor what you're doing is a fundamental point for me: this gives you feedback on color and saturation calibrations, PiPs positionings, titles positionings and such.

            Edius outputs live video to external monitor perfectly from timeline, from effects setups and from version 4.6 from QuickTitler in T track of timeline.
            That's ok.

            But there is not any live output from DVD authoring tool.
            Someone here has replied me stating that Edius is a NLE and not a DVD Authoring tool.
            That's fine for me anyway, but I think this feature would be great.

            Think about the possibility to author DVD in Edius and simulate how your project plays in a real TV monitor before you decide to craft the media.
            You could better position objects in menus, titles and such.
            You could better calibrate colours and improve text readability.

              How the heck are they going to transcode HDV or HQ AVI or whatever on the timeline to MPEG2 in realtime for you to monitor your menu and all that? not possible right now, not with any NLE. Before you encode to MPEG2 you should make sure that all color and everything is corrected, once you finish authoring then you could use many other card to preview to real monitor but not before, not even Scenarist.
