  • Meeting with GVG

I am a engineer by trade for my full time job and on Wednesday we had a number of venders come in and dance for us at a little pre-NAB thing. Pretty boring stuff really HD to SD conversion, Server based distribution DAs and Frame syncs stuff like that. Grass Valley was the last vendor they were proud of their MC switchers and servers which we own some and going to buy more but they gave us a real half hearted sale of their camera almost like they were ashamed of it. Even though we are changing from AVID to FCP and I cant get anyone to consider Edius I did try and bring it up. At the end I said "So hows Edius 5.0 coming along" I was surprised to hear one of the reps say well 4.6 just came out. The last time I met these guys they didnt really know what Edius was although they dont really know it as Edius they know it as the big turnkey system but I guess theres some progress.

ya know Mike I have to say you have come along way from my 1st meeting where Edius was refered as "A cute little product" and this time where they did actually know something about it. They kept hinting that there was stuff happening at NAB that they could tell us about in the type of gear we were in the room for but I coulod get a budge on Edius 5 I just dont think they knew. I left in the elevator with them and forgot to ask if they knew you but these guys are east coast and imagine your more central to west.

To be fair, the organization is HUGE... Half the time someone comes up to me at a show nowadays and says "Hey, Grass Valley! I have one of your ____!" and I say "That's great!" and then run off to ask someone what the heck that customer has...

Outside of the former-Canopus staff, EDIUS knowledge is spreading, but there are very few people in the company who have knowledge of all the products. You gotta get the right guys for the specific product(s) you're interested in.

Heh, heh. At last years NAB we were reportedly promised an early beta of 5.0 by June of last year. Show floor talk :-) Good to hear that Edius is becoming more widely known by GVG at large.

Sales gets plenty of training, for the product lines they sell. Different horses for different courses.

And btw, no 'v5' at NAB. We're showcasing v4.6.

see thats cool I think its gret that TCGV is keeping us imformed without spilling the beans. They told us there is a 5 and its coming just not in time for NAB thats cool. better than pretending there is no 5. Personally this NAB is more of a hardware year for me anyway.
