  • Any Avid editors out there?

I'm thinking of changing to Edius. Are there any comparisons out there?

One of my asspciates is a certified master avid editor and we where working a trade show last week. He was demonstrating the Avid workstation and I was demonstrating the Edius NX workstation. We had a lot of traffic in our booth and by the end of the weekend he had seen a lot of Edius and had a chance to play with it a bit more. He was quite blown away and thus we are building one for him as I write this.

If you need to chat with him sometime, just PM me.

I own both Edius and Avid MC (and a few others). As far as user friendliness goes, I actually prefer Edius over Avid MC. Of course you can't compare Edius to Avid MC if you are intending to working with film projects. The toolsets of Avid MC are clearly geared towards that. My opinion, overall Edius has a better worklow and GUI. GV has really made some nice improvments to Edius from a year ago.

With Avid MC you constantly have to open and close windows to get to functions and the timeline could be better. I haven't been able to get a good setup even with dual monitors. I do use Avid for its Red Giant "Magic Bullet Looks Suite" plugin capability. This is awesome for giving your footage different film looks. I wish it integrated with Edius also.

You might take a look at this thread by caminostereo that has 27 presets that mimic the Magic Bullet looks. very nice.
