  • DVStorm2...Suggestions

I haven't use the Storm2 in a LONG time. I don't even have the drivers/apps loaded now because of reloading XP a while back. I use Premiere Pro2, which was never supported by DVStorm.

Well, I still have the hardware installed, including the breakout box taking space. So, can someone make suggestions for help me with these few questions?

    1. Is there any current video editing apps that DVStorm2 will support?
    2. Can I load the drivers/apps and at least still use DVCapture application? This would be useful at time to capture analog video.
    3. If I can still get 'some' use from the hardware (I always had problems with this one) what 'driver' set do I use and what's the install sequence? There were so many upgrades, etc. I could never keep them straight. I see the drivers are still listed in the drivers download section of Support.
    4. Does Storm2 work with Edius?
    5. How does Edius compare with Premiere Pro2?

    Thanks in advance ...

Your Storm will/should work with Eidus 4.6.

PUT THE STORM IN AN xp pro SP2 MACHINE and load on the EDIUS free trial and you will have real time output to a tv monitor and full function of storm 2 hardware encoder too

This is still a viable edit card for standard definition Projects! Then when you go for HDV get an NXe or just run firewire!

I still have mine and I have sold the others to fund my NXe
Asus P5K64WS, Intel Core 2 Quad QX6850 Extreme CPU, Saphire HD 3850 512mb graphics, WDraptor160 OS, Highpoint Rocket raid 2310 4 x 500gig Seagate sata 2 se drives in raid 0, NXe and Edius 5.51 Imaginate 2.
Procoder 3.06 and various Prodad add-ons

Edius 4.01 ~ 4.60 works fine with the DVstorm2 card, still using it daily at work.

Just use any version of canopus DV capture, even the latest version (1.11) still runs great with DVstorm2 card, I use it a couple of times a month to capture live events.
This is several hours (usually 4 to 6 hours) non stop recording making use of the "seamless" file divide function.

The installation process has been vastly Improved, the days that you needed to follow exact order of patches are over and done with. (almost every update I was scared, one mistake and it didn't work, now no more !)

Any version of Edius 4.x automatically installs the DVstorm2 or NX card in 1 go and gets it right everytime.

The DV drivers that come with edius 4.x works well with DVstorm2 card, I assume that the download section provides the same files.

Using the "MSDV" settings in DV Capture still enables you to use DV capture to capture in Microsoft DV AVI files and edit in Premiere Pro.
Not sure how well PPro can Play Canopus DV with the Canopus playback codec installed, correct me if i'm wrong but as far as I know there is also NO video out plug in from Canopus for PPro. (all the more reason to use Edius, lol)

Yes it does great DV in 4x3 or 16x9 (of course SD only)
In Edius 4.54 & DVStorm2 card, Mpeg 1 & Mpeg 2 (either cbr or vbr) play realtime from the timeline, even when pal & ntsc are mixed !

When I bought DVstorm2 it was bundeled with premiere 6.5, that time better features than Storm edit, but personally never liked adobe much.
Soon edius 1.0 was released and I offered my self as one of the first in this region to trail & error.

To make a long story short, 1.x started out pretty buggy, version 2.x became much better, 3.x is stable.
Now with 4.x I have to say I'm pretty pleased, still rock solid as 3.x but a much more user friendly interface and work flow, as long as you except that nothing in this world is perfect, at least not when working with software, any software for that matter, and you like Full Quality RT preview, Edius 4.x is for you.

I have used Premiere (never PPro) and FCP before, got tired of the low quality preview (still have to render)
Got Edius, never looked back (still browse competitor forums of and on, just to keep up to date)

There are rumors that Edius 5.x might not support DV storm anymore, still, for me and most people doing SD DV work, Edius 4.5 or higher is all "we" need, some work flow enhancements & requests are still left out, but overall pretty complete.

p.s if this was not convincing enough, let me know via P.M. how much you want for you DVstorm2 card, I still have some pc's with empty pci slots.

It's not a rumor - it's official (see the announcement forum).
