  • Quality DDR3 Ram?

    Hi All,
Can someone please suggest quality DDR3 Ram to put into my Asus P5K64WS that won't break the bank? And how much Ram is enough?
    Thank you in advance!

    Ram

Go for Corsair ram, best on the market + life time warranty. I use the dominator series ram from Corsair and have never had a problem, I have also been in the computer industry for 25yrs and have never seen a faulty stick..
Don't quote me on this but....

    cheers

Corsair, Mushkink, OCZ, Crucial Ballistix are all good RAM.

Check NewEgg and pick the one with the best reviews, usually works for me.

All the ones mentioned are good, but I highly recommend you check the compatibility list for your motherboard on the manufacturer's website.

I once had Corsair RAM not work properly in a motherboard until a BIOS update.

And of course I've had two perfectly good sticks of RAM not work properly when put together...

All of these are great but you can still run into issues regarding timing settings and voltage settings on various SUPPORTED Motherboards. This does not mean that their not an excellant choice for your board. It just means that you got to either know what you are doing or call support and have them help you. I usually over-ride the auto settings in the motherboard bios and set the memory timings manually and with DDR3 you sometimes have to up the voltage a tad.

My preference is OCZ. My second is Crucial (owned by Micron).

I was reading that 2gigs of memory is enough to run Edius. Is it better to buy a 2 gig memory kit (2x1gig), or to buy just one stick of 2gig memory?
The MB would be the Asus P5K64 WS.

            Thanks
            Bob

Check your motherboard manual. Most boards nowadays require RAM to be installed in pairs, so you'd need to go 2x1GB if that's the case.

Yes indeed Bob, Install a pair of 1GB OCZ platinum 1333MHz DDR3 sticks and that board will rock.

Be sure to use a CPU with 1333MHz fsb as well.

Good to meet you in my booth last week.
