    Mac Pro information

I am a Edius hobbist. Started with Storm Edit, and love Edius. I want to update my computer and would like to use a Mac Pro. Queston, has anyone used the new HDStorm card in a Mac Pro? Knowing that 64 bit drivers are coming next spring, will Vista on the Mac work with this card in the 64 bit environment? Any suggestions about configurations or helps to set up Edius to run properly.

By the way, don't get trigger happy and get the RAM from Apple (Overcharge). Get it from a reputable dealer like OWC. Get stock 2GB.

Also, you will only see 2GB under Windows XP Pro SP2 (32bit) anyways, so if you plan to use all the RAM, you either need Vista 64 (Which is not supported by Edius and it's cards) or in OSX, which supports all the ram there is.
I know that this thread has to do with Xplode Pro. I would like to relay an issue that I have had with Vitascene. Remember the two settings are similar but not the same.
Vitascene works great for SD and 1440x1080 projects. I use mostly 1920x1080 project settings. I was having difficulties in producing certain effects with that project setting. What I discovered, is that 256mb cards are great for 1440 but won't do any of lower complicated effects. Prodad let me know that a 512mb card is required to achieve that.

Just thought I would pass that along if anyone is using Vitascene in HD.

One other thought. When you guys state that you get realtime Xplode effects, could you please state that it is in SD or HD. I can get it to play with buffer prefill in HD, but still have to render. So, when I see these RT posts, I scramble to see what is what.
Thanks if you can do that.

After all this I installed a ATI (unoffical) Xplode Pro Driver that Antonsvideo posted. ALL IS WORKING GREAT NOW.

    Realtime **confetti**

Ram may help but that still does not explain the difference in the rendering times. Possibly Vista more efficently handles the Rendering task, thats all I can think of. Since the 1 GB machine was still faster than the MacPro at Rendering the 4 Second Confetti effect.

Well one major problem solved. I now have a Realtime system with the ATI 2600HD

***Update - I can't even get the RED render line to come up to see how long it would take the CPU to render now. I don't think I'm going to spend to much time trying to figure out this "problem" HA! ;) ***

I use the standard card that was in my macpro
    HD2600xt (realtime all day) xp
PC nvida 5700 LE (I think) (realtime all day xp)
My note book (go 7600) not realtime anymore I now only have vista on it with newer drivers.

for fun I will try some hdv footage later to see what I get.

Honestly I don't think its an Xplode issue. I have 3 Computers

    #1 3.2Ghz Hyperthreaded 1gb ram, 8600GT, Vista, 20"
    #2 2.33Ghz Core 2 duo MBP 2GB ram, 1600XT, Vista, 15"
    #3 2.8Ghz MacPro 8 Core 2GB Ram, 2600HD XP Pro, 24" Display

Rendering Xplode Confetti 4 second effect ( the first time estimate)
    #1 1min 29sec
    #2 1min 22sec
    #3 2min 49sec

    Same images were used

This is really weird All machines show that they are using the
D3D Universal Driver, Also I DO NOT own an NX Card. So this is all tests are with CPU and Graphics Card

You need Randy's realtime recipe. Time to cook . :)

All kidding aside the same "hacks" apply for xplode pro on a "mac windows" as on pc.

Do a search follow the advice and it will be real time no rendering what so ever.

You got to give it to the Edius developers although not officially supported.
    I am running Edius:
On XP and Vista on both MAC and PC without any issues (besides the knowns)
Please expand on the hacks... I'm suffering here.. if you fixed this issue please say how you fixed it because its pathetic right now.

macmall there you can get xp or vista preinstalled.
Or one of the mac stores (if I am not wrong you can get a discount if you are a registered business)

Ok, this all sounds interesting. Where is the best place in the US to buy a Mac Pro? I can add more memory and harddrives myself.
