  • Want to build Mac Pro with Edius and FCP

I have a friend who wants me to build him MacPro 8core Xexon with Edius and FCP. I've been building NLE PCs for 15 years. Does anyone have an idea where the best deals would be for components and software.

I know I can get a Mac Pro 8 core box for around $2,700. I can easily put in a RAID (Mac RAID?) with 3 TB dirves and load FCP. Then I would need Bootcamp, Edius, etc. And he wants a Kona 3 installed. Any other ideas?

    First of all I have a MacPro. OCTO Core 2.8, 230GB HD,ATI 2600XT, 2GB RAM.

I also have a MacBook Pro 2.3 Ghz Dual Core, 2GB, ATI 1600XT

The 8 Core IS MUCH slower than My laptop for RENDERING as well as Playing Back realtime Effects. I'm fit to be tied. I have a feeling it is the Slow Apple 230GB boot drive 8mb Cache. I have a 500GB 16GB Cache Drive I'm going to install later today. But as of right now the MBP is much faster and I am running off the Laptops boot drive.

The kona Card works in the Mac side of things only

I have the same your question. And can I use NX Express Card in Macpro 8core? Thank for your help.
      Intel i7 3970X Six Core 3.5GHz - Window 7 64 bit - 32GB DDR3 1600MHz Ram - Nvidia GTX-680 2GB GDDR5 - Storm 3G - Edius 6.52.

You can use an NX express card in a Mac Pro.
If you do a search you will find posts by stormdave explaining it.

Remember officially it is not supported and will not get any official GV support.

But It works great and costs less then a pc of the same config.

( and we can always blame Dave for bringing this to our attention he he)

Research first my friend before taking a bite of that rotten Apple. Just kidding of course.

            Dell Precision T5400
            $7,928.00

            Dual Quads at 3.0 GHZ
            8 GB RAM
            1.5 MB FX 5600
            320 GB HD

            Mac Pro
            $7,949.00

            Dual Quads at 3.0 GHZ
            8 GB RAM
            1.5 MB FX 5600
            320 GB HD

If you going to get 8 Cores you might as well get the FX 5600. I was not in the market for a Dual Quad Core system but I think I would opt for the Dell myself. They are indeed priced real close. I actualy do not like the look of the Apple Mac Pro or the Dell (ugly). Mac, HP and Dell are all good but if you need FCP there is only one choice.

Plus all the other things a Mac gives you. But Guys I am still having the Rendering issue. Even after installing a new Fast Hard Drive. Xplode FX take quite a bit longer to render than My Dual core PC 3 Ghz 8600 GT

I take that back my MBP is slow as well compaired to my PC running Vista in the other room. 24sec vs 4 Min..

For all of the new Mac/PC owners (who would rather use Edius)it would be great if we could figure out what this issue is

xplode pro is real time on my mac.
You need Randy's realtime recipe. Time to cook . :)

All kidding aside the same "hacks" apply for xplode pro on a "mac windows" as on pc.

Do a search follow the advice and it will be real time no rendering what so ever.

You got to give it to the Edius developers although not officially supported.
                I am running Edius:
On XP and Vista on both MAC and PC without any issues (besides the knowns)

What card are you using to get RT out of Xplode Pro? Is this in SD or HD res?

Since I know xplode pro was intended for SD I only use it there.
I use the standard card that was in my macpro
                    HD2600xt (realtime all day) xp
PC nvida 5700 LE (I think) (realtime all day xp)
My note book (go 7600) not realtime anymore I now only have vista on it with newer drivers.

for fun I will try some hdv footage later to see what I get.

I get realtime playback in SD. I still have the red line above after playback though. Also, what is your largest monitor resolution?

macmall there you can get xp or vista preinstalled.
Or one of the mac stores (if I am not wrong you can get a discount if you are a registered business)
