  • Unwanted slow-motion footage !!

This is the most bizarre problem I have ever encountered:
Although I have changed nothing at all, most of my projects are running in slow-motion (exactly 50% speed) and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. Even when I capture footage from my Sony HD-FX1 camera (looking normal) and I play this footage on the monitor or on the time line, there is no sound and it runs in slow-motion. When I play the footage with Windows MediaPlayer, it runs at normal speed and with sound! It gets weirder still: there appear to be some projects that still work normally. When I compare all the settings of these projects to the setting of those projects that refuse to run at normal speed, they are IDENTICAL (HD1080i, Canopus HQ codec, etc). When I open a project that works fine and I capture new footage from my camera into this project, it looks fine too ! So basically, all my hardware is working fine, but there sure is something really fishy going on.
I tried an uninstall of Edius 4.54, erased the C:\Program files\Canopus\Edius folder and even cleaned the registry. Then I reinstalled 4.54: all my presets and projects were still there and the problem was still there too. Clearly, these presets and settings are stored elsewhere (somebody knows where ??). I tried 4.6 to no avail: same behaviour.
Browsing through the Forum, apparantly no one has this problem and I admit that I have never seen anything this weird in the more than 10 years I use Canopus products.
My machine runs just fine: Asus P5K-WS mobo (intel P35 chipset), 3.2 GHz Intel Core2Duo, 4 Gb DDR800 RAM, Intel RAID controller, Asus EN8500 GT Silent graphics card. Windows XP SP2.
All help will be greatly appreciated, 'cause I don't know what to do anymore save "format C" and re-install everything and I'd hate to do that.

Can you post a screen grab of the video info tab of one of the clips playing strange.
(select the clip, press alt enter, go to video info)

I am having the same problem.

I am new to Edius but have been a video editor for sometime,

I have heard from a lot of people that Edius is one of the best video editors around and wanted to try it prior to purchasing it.

I am currently using Vegas 8.0

My video/audio computer system is as follows:

Pentium 4 - 3.0 gig processor speed dual processors w/2.0 gigs of memory, All Intel MOBO.

Drives are all SATA except for my C:/drive which is IDE ATA 133

My OS is Windows XP pro with SP2 all current upgrades

          DX 9.0 C

Video Card 8800GT all the latest updates.

          Here is the problem.

I downloaded the trial from the Edius site.

I downloaded both Edius 4.0 and Neo

I installed Neo on my office computer which is basically the same as my video PC and everything was running fine.

I installed Edius 4 demo on my video computer and everything is running at half speed. I measured it with my trusty stop watch and it is indeed running at half speed. I installed Edius 4 thinking that there was something wrong with it and installed Neo in its place with the same results.

Vegas is playing back at normal speed with no problems.

I am a newbie to Edius but not to video editing and this is very puzzling. I was looking around in the forum and ran across this thread.

I am a professional audio mastering engineer by day and a video editor/videographer in my "spare" time. We do a lot of commercial work and concert recordings both video and audio for some local non profit organizations.

          Looks like a GREAT forum.

          Hope someone has some answers.

Any suggestions or things I need to check? Thanks in advance.

            Hi again,

In a way, I was glad to learn that at least one other user has encountered the same problem as I have.

Here's the screenshot that SR Support asked for

Hope this helps, meanwhile I'm going back to version 4.54

Ok there are 2 things I will ask you to do.

1 can you put that clip up somewhere so I can download it and have a look at it here
2 can you convert it to HQ on your system, play back that file and tell me if it plays back at normal speed.

                It's not very OK actually,

I can export this clip using Canopus HQ and then it plays at normal speed in Windows Media Player. BUT, when I import this clip in Edius again and put it on the time line, everything is back to half speed and without sound.
I'm not sure where I can put the footage for you to download, but I don't think there's actually anything wrong with the footage, it's Edius that's acting weird.

Hmm... and how do you know that for a fact?
If you know what is wrong already then I will leave it to the engineers to fix it.

                  Sorry I could not help.

Rather touchy, are you ? If the footage plays OK with every player I can find, but does not work in Edius (which it did fine until 1 week ago), my gut tells me that there is something wrong with Edius. I am not saying that Edius itself is wrong, there is something wrong WITH it on MY computer. That's why I would like to know more about this problem. The other user form Ohio who encountered the same problem as I did probably has good footage too, since he is a pro. I'm fine with Edius, I just want to get this fixed. :)

That is why I want the footage so I can see if something went wrong at the capture stage, If it acts up on different machines or not.
There is a long list of things I can try which can help on reporting and in the end solve your problem.

It has happened often that when I got footage everything was fine and we could help the user sort it out. :)

Without a sample, it's hard to determine the cause..

                          Okay,
I accept that. My remark just meant that I don't know where to put the sample. Just give me an ftp address and I'll put the sample there. I don't have acces to an internet file server, that's all.
                          Please advise,

                          Glen

My footage once it is "printed" to an AVI file plays back well on every other player including Vegas 8.0 is is just in Edius that it plays back at half speed and it is exactly half speed.

The same footage played back on my office machine works GREAT! and I am running pretty much the same setup with a slightly lower cost 7600 video card. My office machine is all SATA as is my video editing machine.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated
