  • File Format For Web?

    My son-in-law is re-doing my web site, I have a 6 minute highlight video, currently a HQ avi 16x9 shot in HDV. I only have procoder express, is their a format which will have hi quality and accepted in a flash program. or should I invest in another app...please help. Gary

      If you need it to be flash then use CS3 Flash Encoder (the demo will work for 30 days :-)

      Export from Edius as DV 16x9, then encode in Flash Encoder to use VP6 codec and half the square pixel size:

      PAL = 1024x576, so resize to 512x288
      NTSC = 1024x480 so resize to 512 x 240

      I find this gives me the best quality as deinterlacing is automatic and sharpness is retained.

      I usually choose 350 -400k video bitrate and 64-96k audio (mono) or 96-128k audio stereo.

      A 6 minute reel is really long - I would probably think about breaking it into sections and keep the file sizes down..

      Hope that helps! :-)

          have you embedded an swf player with flv loader and player controls?

          I use FlixPro and it can automatically create many styles of flv loader swf

              in order to play flv inside a webpage, you need an swf loader with or without player controls, I am not an Adobe user (other than Photoshop) so I can't help there

              basically, you embed the swf player in your webpage, and the swf player will load the flv providing the flv is in the same folder as the swf and webpage

              example of swf player playing an flv

                There is also On2's Flix exporter that plugs into EDIUS so you can encode straight out from the timeline. If you import a flv file into Macromedia to make your web page it will give you a selection of players automatically.

                You can load it up onto my youtube like underwater site in the computer video section if you want and then use the embed code to place into your web page.

                For FLASH I encode them out from EDIUS with the Flix Exporter as 480//270, CBR 500-700kbps, 16.9 aspect ratio.
