  • HDV speed encoder and SD-DVD ?

I have just finished a 3 minit music video, all was shoot and edited in HDV, I then used ( first time ) the HDV speed encoder to encode to a *.m2p file....
The quality of the *.m2p file is excellent, but the size of the file is about 540 MB..; I would then like to Burn a DVD from this m2p file with the same quality...
I tried procoder express, but the vob file is no way near the quality I want....
So my question is, what is the best setting in procoder express to get the same quality as the HQ file ?

I am not sure how to tell you this but your work flow and idea of making a DVD from HDV is so far off, so I will start from scratch.

The only way to make a "DVD" for the want of a better word in the same quality as your HDV footage is to burn to a Blueray disk for which you will need Procoder 3 for starters to obtain a compliant file for Authoring.
Then you will need an Authoring program to compile the Blueray disk, a Blueray burner and a stand alone Blueray player if there is one that will play the disk? not hopeful.

The best you will be able to get with a DVD will look rather unsharp by comparison as the DVD spec requires the footage to be downsized to 720x576 for PAL or 720x480 for NTSC and depending on the quality of the original footage may contain artifacts on horizontal lines (like a moving zebra pattern) but these can be eliminated in Procoder 3.

You can make a DVD direct from the timeline by selecting "PRINT to DVD" fro the export button and follow the prompts, but it will only be as good as a normal SD DVD.

The other options are to buy a DVICO TVIX HD player or similar unit and load your HDV files onto the hard drive on the player, need to be m2t files (Native HDV) and you will be able to play back in full HDV Quality.
or the other option is to export the HDV file back to the camera using the "MPEG TS Writer" available in EDIUS under Capture! and then play back in full HDV from the camera
Both of the above you can export using speed encoder leaving all the settings as they come up except make the quality "Highest Quality"

Hope this helps, it looked like no one wanted to tackle this one

Yes, I noticed the zebra pattern, I think I have to get procoder 3 then...
I checked my local resellers webpage, doesn´t seem to have the upgrade from PCE to Procoder 3..hmm, What is the cost for procoder 3 upgrade ?

There is an upgrade for Procoder from EDIUS, so you only need to pay for the upgrade. I have no idea what the price would be other than Australia
There are specific settings for Procoder to rid the artifacts that have been posted on the forum, it is not just a matter of getting procoder and you will also need an Authoring program if you want to use other than DVD from the timeline.

You may need to read this thread
