  • NX/HDV card

What is the nature of the 6 pin Firwire port on the NX/HDV card? Meaning is just like any other OHCI card? Does it have power? Is it meant only for video like the 4pin?

The expansion board? I believe it can function as a regular 6-pin FireWire port/board, but I wouldn't recommend running anything off it at the same time as you are ingesting/exporting with the NX hardware.

There is a molex power connector on the board itself.

The reason I ask is I have always used a Storm until last year when I changed to standard OHCI 2 weeks ago I had a meltdown where the Firewire port fried 5 firewire ports on my cameras, decks etc. It would be good piece of mind for me to know that the Firewire port on the HDV card is unpowered and a bit more propriatory than a standard port .

If you have the NXe and the NXe HDV / COMPONENT output board AND YOU have them linked internally then only use the small 4 pin NOT the 6 pin external firewire port.

        And never both!

Is it necessary to use the additonan molex power connection on the expansion card if not using its firewire port?

It's only needed if you want to use devices that need power from the firewire port.

FireCoder/Component board also has a OHCI 6pin port.

Which according to the manual should not be used if you hook up the NX to the firecoderboard via the internal dv cable.

The manual is it gives you all these warnings without telling you why?????

So according to the manual the 6 pin is useless in the nx package?
