Ahh... I see, the reply was about post length, not search string length. I get it.

Anton is referring to the minimum post length (in characters) rule with respect to "ahhaa" (which is only five characters long and is too short).
Simple enough, the 10 character length is a default vBulletin setting. And no, I'm not really interested in changing that length.
10 characters is more than sufficient to say "Thanks 'forumusername'"
It also eliminates posts that are nothing more than ":)" "lol" etc. As well as posts that are accidentally nothing more than a quote of a previous post, but the poster forgot to add their own comments.
For searching of two characters or less, use google. But honestly, when I search I eliminate small common words anyway. Your example would be effective if you simply used a search on "EDIUS fails start"

That's very strange because I'm pretty certain that Kenneally reduced the minimum number of characters to 3. Which search page are you using?

ahhaaa
one ahhaaa does not work here from down under, I get a popup that says minimum characters must be 10

One ahhaaa works fine for me?
Minimum word-length rules are common. Otherwise there are way too many indices and the database gets bloated and inefficient.
A Google Search on in the and you get 620,000,000 matches... aiyeesh!

ahhaaa ahhaaa (one ahhaaa was too short)
who makes up these rules?

Double-quote it so it's a string and it'll work fine.
You can't search for individual words less than 3 characters long. It makes the indexing database go wacko.

for webmaster
the search function is too problematic, for example search for a current thread called "edius fails to start" and you will get error that the search words are too shortTags: None
