  • Edius Fails to start

I don't know what happened. Edius 4.6 was running well. The next time I tried to start it hangs during the startup sequence. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, tried starting without the dongle...nothing seems to make a difference. It always hangs during the start, with CPU utilization showing constant 50%. What happened?

have a look in device manager for yellow warnings? maybe there is a problem with the sound card or its driver in which case Edius will not start

have you changed anything lately? automatic windows updates?

what happens if you double click a project file in windows explorer?

No auto update...I keep that kind of stuff disabled.
No program installs or deletes, no changes
Trying to open a project fails in the same point of startup...about 1/5 of the progress bar before it freezes.
It's baffling me. Edius runs on my laptop...move the dongle to my workstation and nada, nil, zip.

Since it's a new install, I was running for awhile without the dongle, then I noticed my EX1 Clip Browser wasn't showing up in the EDIUS dropdown, so I inserted the dongle. Tried to restart EDIUS and now it wwon't fire at all. Rolled back to v4.54, same thing.

I had some Edius windows corruptions, earlier. I was advised to change my video driver, which I did. After changing the windows driver, thje edius window corruptions were fixed. Cool, I thought. The next time I tried to start Edius is when things startd to freeze up. I uninstalled the windows driver and reinstalled...same same freezeup on a start sequence.

so when you start Edius, you don't actually make it as far as the project/profile selection window? it hangs before then?

yes, that's right. It fails on the startup sequence (during the splash screen)

can you confirm that the sound card works when playing an audio clip

also, you may want to re-install the graphics card driver just in case something is corrupt

I did both of those already.
                      Sound works, directx diag works
                      Video drivers reinstalled

At least you're thinking of all the same things I did....;o)

                        is the dongle lit up?

what other hardware is in any of the PCI or PCIe slots?

can you shut down and remove the firewire card, then see if edius starts

if no, shut down again and put the card back in and remove the express card reader

if all the above still fails, go to bios setup and load bios defaults

No change at all. Still hangs with 50% CPU utilization.
