how many chapters can be placed on a dvd?

I think the limit was 99 chapters. This is in the DVD specs.

on a 4:3 project, 36 chapters per menu is max allowed

on a 16:9 project, 18 chapters per menu is max allowed

total allowed chapters per VTS is 99

however, you can create more than one VTS and as a result you can have way more than 99

however, in order to link from one VTS to another, you need to use a bridge object or similar (bridge object with DVD Lab Pro)

I video a dance recital and was asked about chapters for each routine.

I have not tried Ulead, however if it supports import of chapters from a text file, you will be fine

Edius allows you to export markers to text file in about 2 seconds (providing you have the free german marker exporter plugin)
