Installing Edius NX Express PCI-e and full of problems

The MPEG encoder board referred to by the OP is the newer PCIe (FireCoder) board supplied with the NX Express package. Aside from performing the realtime HD component output, this board provides high-speed MPEG-2 output but requires that you use the appropriate exporter. Regular MPEG2 (Generic)/(HDV) exporters, or ProCoder Express for EDIUS do not use this hardware encoder.

Unfortunately I don't have a FireCoder/NX Express system handy to point out the correct exporter to use, but there should be one. If not, then reinstall the hardware drivers for the NX Express and that should fix the issue.

Okay. I just upgraded from my Storm Pro 2 and Edius 3.5 to Edius PCI-e NX express and Edius 4.5 and I'm riddled with issues, and could use help:

1. I have, as listed in the Hardware setup manual, an MPEG ENGINE BOARD. I THINK I have it hooked up correctly, but I have no way of knowing as the user guide makes no mention of the mpeg engine board nor how to actually interface or use it. It MAY, but the nomenclature did not follow through. So, how do I know if this is hooked up right or not? And under what conditions would I use the 6 pin fire-wire on the back of it, if the whole setup of it involves the internal 4-pin to my main NX Express Board? Why even have a 6-pin FW and then tell me to never ever use it?
   
2. I tried outputting a DVD of a project yesterday and it seemed to take as long as it always has. I THOUGHT things were supposed to be a bit speedier. Beyond that, the DVD is all screwed up. It drops signal after the first few seconds and gives me some weird gray squares with a crazy static-like sound for about 10 seconds. Then when it recovers from THAT, the picture keeps dropping in and out. Literally to a black screen. The audio continues, but the picture just goes to black. I never had this problem with 3.5, and am wondering if this is tied back to MPEG ENGINE BOARD, as I thought ti was supposed to output in almost real time (or faster), but it took just as long as always when I used to go through Procoder Express in 3.5. Again, nothing in the user guide is helping me.
   
3. What in blue blazes is the ADVC Mode Controller? I again cannot find it in the user guide too easily (I did not intend to receive NO INDEX for searching for what I need, and do not wish to wade through 194 pages of things I already know to find 1 or 2 things I do not, and do not seem to have the same name as they do in other printed docs.

I guess that does it for now. I'm sure I have more, but I'll try to dole these out 1 or two at a time. In the old days, 1 phone call to Canopus Tech Support would've solved all of this, but GV tech support sucks these days (Seriously, how many times do I have to say "IM ON THE EAST COAST, DO NOT CALL AFTER 5PM MY TIME 2PM YOUR TIME" just to come back the next morning to find a call from 7:30PM, and then repeat the process for three days????

Since your complaining about speed, keep in mind that the NX boards do not accelerate anything. It all depends on your computer horsepower. If you are using the same system that you used the storm in, the speed would more than likely be the same.
If you are referring to encoding speed, after Procoder came available I never used the hardware encoder to encode anything. Try the same project and use PCE or if you have Procoder try it for a burn. If I am correct, the hardware encoder has a set speed that it encodes. It does not scale with CPU power. But, if you have built a new system, PCE or PC3 or 3 should be faster and with better quality.

3. double click the ADVC controller icon, now it will appear on taskbar
right click the icon on taskbar and make sure it is switched to Edius mode
right click the icon again and click exit
that is all you ever need to do and you only do it once

2. if a DVD freezes, there can be many causes
total bitrate too high (never use more than 8000 combined)
try and use 7700 max for video and 256 max for ac3 audio
avoid mpeg audio
avoid wav audio
use closed GOPS
use good quality Tayo Yuden Japan DVD-R disks
burn at half speed what burner or disk could handle
how was the DVD encoded? Pro Coder Express? Procoder3? built in DVD creator?

The more info you give the easier it is to solve the problem.

Is this on a new machine or have you just removed the storm board and installed the NXe

I would recommend a Clean install of your operating system and then once that is working well Then install the NXe and expansion board and EDIUS 4.5(the Edius that shipped with the pack)

This is what I did and it was NO problem Then I would hang fire on upgrading to 4.6 for a later date.

There are some people having some issues with 4.6 so keep it 4.5 or if you must 4.54

Then you can experiment with capture of HDV HD or SD

You will need to read the book as the capture process is different than with storm and you are best using EDIUS to capture with.
