Cutting a Clip

I am using Edius 4.51

With Edius 3.5, I was able to cut a clip into two, then grab the latter half, and "eat" or drag into it, so I could keep it matched on when things were happening with another camera angle of footage.

Edius 4.51 seems harder. You can't just grab the latter clip, it highlights the cut with blue and yellow, and it won't let me "eat into the clip". It just drags the previous clips' end along with me.

Any one know what I am doing? Don't know if I explained it well enough

cut the clip with C key

place mousepointer on inside edge of clip until you see a red [ and then drag right

if you see 2 red ][ then both clips will be trimmed

alternatively, scrub to a desired point of a selected clip and press N on keyborad for a new in point or M for an out point

Ok, well when I see the red [ appear, I drag it, but it doesn't move the clip, it just starts trimming it. I need the parts that are trimmed to move along the time line to stay in unison with the one below it. Cutting it in two points and deleted moves the rest of the clip down the line, up to the delete point.

Any thoughts?

if you want to move without trimming, hold Shift+Alt while dragging the clip, all other clips to right will follow

Doesn't seem to work either. Still trims.

If the prior Edius could do this, why the heck did they have to change it. I just wanna delete footage and not have the clip move while dragging into it.

I am confused

one minute you want the clip to move and then you don't want it to move

maybe you have ripple mode on, this can cause grief? see if the ripple button above timeline is on or off, if on, turn it off and leave it off, you will never need it (you may also turn off ripple mode in application settings to make it automatically off on future new projects)

can you explain again what you wish to do in a different way

like I said before, to trim a clip without moving it, press N or M at the playhead position

Ok...basically I am editing a wedding I shot with two camera angles. I want them to stay in sync with one another.

So when I take out video from the top line, I need it to stay in sync with the bottom line.

With Edius 3.5, when you didn't want a clip to move, but you wanted to drag into it and eliminate footage without moving it, you would grab the end and push into it. The clip wouldn't move, but you wouldn't delete what you were dragging.

well, it works the same here with Edius 4.6 providing ripple mode is off, 4.51 worked the same in this regard

Anton is right. If you set your cursor to the INSIDE of the clip so that it changes to red then you should be able to shorten your clip without moving it. If it is moving, you are not on the edge of the clip.

And you could always place the cursor where you want and then use "N" or "M" depending on whether you want the part of the clip before or after the cursor to be deleted.
