Bloom Transition

Hi,

does anyone know a good way on how to create a bloom transition without buying any additional plugs? (You know the fade to white, where the highlights are blown out and blurred etc)

Ive used a keyframed luminancekey on a white matte clip but it doesn't quite look right to me.

Have a look over at ProDad.com

They have four aplications that plug into edius and offer some very clean looking special effects. Adorage is there transition app.

I have also tried to achieve this and have not been successful when it comes to doing a bloom transition inside edius.

Of course there are ways to achieve this by buying other applications such as proDad vitascene which has the bloom filter and other light ray filters as indicated above but you do have to buy the $399.00 USD program which is not what your asking.

So no there is no way as of todays version edius v4.~ that I know of with out spending money on another program to do this.

Maybe in v5~ we will see some cool ProDad effects, transition and even motion tracking.


How important is the effects you need.

I personally am considering checking into a different suites that includes these effects. Not an easy find and it's starting to look like 3 options (including one on the Mac side)....

im not willing to spend any more money on any additional plugs esp if its just for one transition that i need.

I use this kind of transistion often (wedding trailers/overviews) and my current workflow involves editing the scene in edius, bring it into after effects, apply transitions and other effects, colour grade and then back into edius for final output to mpeg2.

I just thought there may be an easier way right inside edius.

Try this tutorial I created for EventDV magazine. It isn't a perfect bloom but comes close. I use it in most of my weddings and it is all with Edius effects/transitions.

Yeah try a Blend Filter, with a Combine filter and key frame smooth blur and high contrast curves. It looks pretty good, depending on the footage.

You can get the effect by putting each clip on a different timeline, with some overlap. Apply a color correction with keyframe taking brightness to max and contrast to min with a bezier curve. Then set some keypoints for transparency on each track...voila...bloom transition.

If you do it with the blend filter you can then save it as a preset and use it over and over :)

I uploaded the filters I mentioned in my Event DV article indicated in a previous post.

You will still need to read the article quickly as there are a few tweaks you have to do each time you use it because a chrominance filter is involved where white needs to be selected. It's not perfect and you need to tweak it a little. You also need to add a vapor dissolve as your transition. Read the tutorial above and download the filter.

It mimics it close enough for what I do. I may have tweaked it a few times since the tutorial but it is a version I used regularly. In the zip file I uploaded there is a Shine In and a Shine Out. When you read the tutorial it will all make sense.

Hope that gives you a good starting point.

I have done a few experiments with other ways to do it better but I haven't figured out how to do it quickly and easily yet with presets.

Just downloaded the filter and can open it and use it in Edius3 but can't seem to get it to show up at all in Edius4 (different machines) Can someone please confirm where I should be extracting the file to in v4.

The import functionality was the same for me in 3.? and 4.?. Check your effects pallete. Sometimes imported filters show up way down at the bottom of the list and sometimes hidden in a folder.
