  • Playback codec problem

I just tried to play an HQ clip on my 'home theater' pc via a network connection. Then I downloaded the playback codec and tried again. Using WMP 11.

There is no audio sync! It seems like the picture is playing slow and the audio ends before the video. The counter reaches the end and the video keeps playing.

    Anybody know what's going on?

    What speed is your network?

It's a gig network. Plays back with less than 12% utilization.

But I transfered a clip to the other computer and it did the same thing. I don't think its a network thing.

That's weird. What happens if you pause playback in the middle then resume - does the audio stay out of sync, or does it resync then drift out again?

I'll try it but it might be hard to tell--the subject matter makes the sync difficult. Its dog sled racing and road graders. Most of it at the telephoto end so I don't see and hear the subject at the same time.

I think I have a raven squawking at the end of one clip--that would be good to tell.

Yes, it will resync when you pause and recue on wmp. It will not resync when you just pause and play.

But it goes out of sync really quick.

I forgot that I said hello to the Fur Rondy Queen and her princesses. Her name is in sync but by the time she introduces her 'court' that is noticeably out of sync. (And I'm horrible at notices sync problems)

Since it plays in-sync when re-cued, it sounds like it's more of a decoding problem versus a problem in the stream itself.

              Is audio hardware acceleration enabled?

Audio hardware acceleration IS enabled and even though it lets me change the setting and 'apply', when I come back, it is still on full acceleration.

The audio is at the proper pitch though, the video seems to be going slowly. I enabled direct x video acceleration and it seemed to help a tiny bit--sync drift was slightly slower. I tried messing with other settings but no luck there either.

Get this: I just tried Nero Showtime and it stayed in sync! So what's different between the two?

Is the display you're using WMP on the Primary Windows display?
Also, you have installed the drivers for your graphics hardware and are not using the Windows-native driver, correct?

You might try disallowing WMP to use the Video Mixing Renderer (VMR)

Aye, its the only one too.

Yes, its an older computer which has been working fine otherwise so I haven't updated them in forever. I've looked at the readmes and they don't seem to address my hardware anymore.

Yeah, maybe not. Video still runs slow AND I get really amazingly horrible interlacing artifacts.

Maybe I'll try winamp. What I'm trying to do is watch my footage on my big LCD tv. So having a playlist function is what I'm looking for. I am curious whats going on though.

It's been a long while since I've seen it happen, but it can happen that the video overlay transfer to the video card gets somehow delayed by the bus traffic...

Does this happen with other types of files (like a 1080p WMV) - or just Canopus HQ files?
