I just posted in different thread < I should have posted here > about
the need for a correct 1080p project setting. It seems to be a technical
issue from a few responses I got back.
Have you downscaled any of you 1080 30p projects to SD for DVD yet?
If so how were the results and what workflow do you use?

What is your final destination for all this video? Is it local or networked playback or is it eventually Blu-ray disc?
If it is Blu-ray disc then you should be shooting all of your video in 1920x1080 23.976p because that is the only compliant 1080p format for Blu-ray from the camera. You can shoot in 23.976 and edit in HDV setting for preview on the NX card then swap to OHCI for output to Mpeg2 HD for BD.
Begs the question, how are you viewing the footage after your edit?Last edited by shueardm; 03-02-2008, 10:23 PM.Leave a comment:

Ok reading and experimenting and reading and experimenting. I have made a project using 1440 x 1080 by 29.997p as suggested. This yields unacceptable results..
All of this at 1920 x 1080 x 30p
If I take my camera connect it to my tv, results Sharp/clear/WOW
Take my MP4 Clip, change it to MPG Transport stream at 35mbs, play it back on my PS3 again Sharp/clear/WOW (no discernable difference to the original by my eye)
Ok take the same clip in Edius Broadcast and make a 1920 x 1080 x 60i or a 1440 x 1080 by 29.997p timeline and output it back out Unacceptable
On the other hand, My XHA1 footage looks great! I take it into the 1440 x 1080 60i timeline in Edius and the stuff that is rendered back out looks GREAT! To my eye no different than the original pristine footage.
the XHA1 footage that comes out of edius looks fabulous compared to anything that I can get to come out of Edius with my XDCam EX. Furthermore it is NOT the Camera. The video shot with the XDCAM is MUCH better than the video shot with the XHA1. It is the Edius step that is killing it.

Is anyone shooting at 1920 x 1080 x 30P and getting great results and if so what is your workflow for getting it back out looking as great as the footage that is coming out of this wonderful camera?Leave a comment:

There is no 1920x1080/30p preset.
You will need to work in 1440x1080/30p for the time being.Leave a comment:

I am a long time user of Canopus Edius Pro. I just upgraded to Broadcast and downloaded the updater 4.6. I installed and it is working well. I am using the XDCAM EX camera. I shoot in 1920 x 1080 30P. I NEED project settings for 1920 x 1080 30P. I can import my video in 1920 x 1080 60i project but it loses the "look". Resolution seems to suffer as well. I have procoder and can output the timeline to mpeg blu ray spec of 1920 x 1080 30P with a data rate of 35k. It does not look nearly as pristine as my original footage. Is the software taking my progressive footage, interlacing it at the Edius level, and then deinterlacing it again at the procoder stage? My edited footage looks like crap compared to my orginal. How the heck do I edit and output and stay in the 30P format? If I can't do that, what work flow are people using to import, edit and then output 1920 x 1080 30P?

By the way, the new Edius version 4.6 imports and "sees" all of my mp4's without dificulty.Leave a comment:
