  • Edius: this year's big winner at NAB?

After Avid cancelled their 2008 NAB appearance back in November, Apple announced the same a few days ago. So it's quite a chance for other NLE manufacturers to attract attention. So hopefully TGV will surprise us :)

I think one of the moderators hinted that Edius 5 would not be ready for NAB 2008.

If PP CS4 is 64 bit it may steal the show.

I am not sure what Aurora is but I know it is a Thomson/Grass valley product.

Aurora is Grass Valley's television broadcast editing line.

Could you tell us (me) a litle more about the Aurora system. Is Thomson pushing Edius to the network stations in favor of Aurora or is it the other way around? Is there a demo of Aurora?

Sorry, I don't know a lot about Aurora. It's a different division from mine.

NewsEdit and its related applications were the newscutting systems for broadcast. Aurora is the successor to NewsEdit.

I don't necessarily think one is pushed over the other - it depends on the installation's requirements. Aurora is more tightly integrated with newsroom control systems, playout and content management than EDIUS is.

So no plan for a breathtaking Edius presentation since there's hardly competition at all this year?

Keep in mind that Thomson's overall product line and target market space is very broad. We will be occupying two booths in the South Hall alone.

As for what's on display, more information should be available on the GV web site soon. Now would be a good time to make sure you are subscribed to receive NAB news.

Sort of seems like a natural fit, with Apple and Avid not going to NAB. EDIUS could get some serious consideration from the NAB attendees.

Out of sight out of mind

You are correct of course... I am sure the folks in charge of the show (for us) have some things in mind :)

I am hoping to see an HDMI equivalent of the Storm card for use with AVCHD.

HDMI as an expansion card for the NX/SP line would be cool, too!
