  • Broadcast Upgrade confusion

    Take 2
If I buy a Pro 4 to Broadcast 4 Upgrade I get a second dongle with the Broadcast license on it- does it require the other Pro dongle in the machine to run or could that be used in "Pro mode" on a second system i.e encoding from the timeline on an OHCI system

Kenneally has answered this elsewhere (somewhere)

You need both dongles installed. However, I (and a few others) don't for some unknown reason, I guess i got lucky, I don't know what is different about my dongles.

We upgraded to broadcast on one of our systems and only use one dongle.

David you can merge the dongles with the license manager.
You will be left with one empty dongle.
But as K said it is a matter of protecting your eggs :)

If you have Edius Pro 4 installed on your system, you already have all the Edius Broadcast files already installed in your system. They are just locked / greyed out. When you get the Edius Broadcast upgrade package, just swap dongles. When you launch your Edius Pro, you will notice that XD Select loads up first and that all the stuff that was greyed out is now available to you.

Nope you can't swap dongles because the upgrade only has the extra "broadcast licenses"
You still need your normal Edius 4 dongle.

Well I don't know why it would ask you for the Edius 3.0 SERIAL NUMBER. It is a mystery. :)

Steve, I am telling you that I have a few new builds right now running Broadcast with only the upgrade dongle plugged in. If I plug the Pro dongle in, XD select does not come up and broadcast features are greyed out. Swap the dongle and bingo broadcast features are enabled. No I have never copied the dongle license to the machine.

This has been discussed before. A few shipments went out with a complete dongle instead of the upgrade only dongle. Some got lucky. ;)

But the policy is/was broadcast upgrade : broadcast licenses on separate dongle .
That would mean you need both.

Anyway I don't want to have an endless discussion over this. These are the policies I got from Canopus.
(maybe they are different now but I have not got news of that)

The above is correct. It should be two, but if you can run with one, lucky you.
