  • DLP vs LCD

Looking for recomendations for a projector to show Love Stories, etc. to a room full of folks. I'm mainly wanting comments on your experience with gear, I can read the published specs. I'm not needing to show HD yet. I'll most often play from a DVD player.

Bring on the projector and portable screen comments, both LCD and DLP. . .

Are you going to be feeding it directly from an EDIUS system?

DLP's are really nice. They have solid blacks, etc...but if you get a good brand 1080p TV (46" for example) you'd be in good shape. Notable TV's with good upscalers: Sharp Aquos, Samsung, Sony (Best that I've seen...XBR4 or XBR5 series). Plus if you buy one it will be future proof if you move up to HD.

I'd prefer, if the discussion isn't going to be EDIUS-related, that it be taken elsewhere..

I had a feeling that the OP wanted opinions on TV's that he'll connect to his NX to show demos for his customers? I might be wrong.

I may use it to show a Same Day Edit directly from Edius. It would likely be from a laptop, not my not-so-portable edit station.

              Guys
              I have a Epson TW 700 projector.

It's only 1280/720 but on a 100inch screen stuff looks very good.

I have hooked it straight to the a laptop via VGA, HDV camera via component and normal a DVD player no problems.

              It's a very clean picture.

For what its worth this is my experience with the Adelaide Filmo Club
They have an ACER DLP projector 800x600, can not remember the model, as stated the Blacks are superb but it suffers from severe artifacts on scrolling text and images that are a greater resolution than it is capable of or very well made sharp DVD's
I have a Sony Hi Def! LCD projector that I take along when giving a Lecture/ seminar and the picture is much smoother, admitedly my unit is 1368 x 768 so it could be comparing oranges and apples and coming up with a banana
Hope this is of some help
