  • EX1 and 4.6... instant editing now!

I just downloaded 4.6. It reads EX1 mp4 native files. What a dream! There are 2 workflows for me now, depending how quickly I need to edit.
    FASTEST WAY
    1. Insert SxS card into Express slot.
    2. Open Sony clip browser 1.1, open mp4 files on card.
    3. Drag them to Edius 4.6 bin.
    4. Done. Instant editing!!!! You're reading off the SxS card.

    BEST WAY
    1. Insert SxS card into Express slot.
    2. Copy the card's entire BPAV folder to your hard drive. (This will take a couple of minutes)
    3. Open Sony clip browser 1.1, open mp4 files in downloaded folder
    4. Drag them to Edius 4.6 bin
    5. Edit!

How cool is that? No need to export to MXF anymore.

And how do we put a finished product back on the EX1 ??
Has anyone tried the batch capture in 4.6 (HDV)?
On our systems it asks to confirm the tape EVERY clip before it starts capturing. In the previous version it only asked for tape chack when it reached another tape.

Any reason why you want to go back to EX1 SxS chips? If you need a playback device, you're better off building a cheap home theater in a box and just playing back the files on a HDTV.

1: As Anton said use a HD Playback box, DVICO make an excellent unit, can fit a Hard Drive and use external USB drives or even connect to your computer via a LAN Connection
2: Batch capture and HDV do not mix as the cameras WILL not cue, its worse than trying to capture from VHS with no time code in the old days.
You might get the first clip but after that you get anything and the camera whirs back and forth outputting even the original clip.
Best let Edius break the clips up on capture by setting break on Timecode change.
3: Can't answer as I don't and cannot use Batch Capture with HDV

How long does it actually take to copy a full 8 or 16 SXS Card to your hard drive?

From the express slot, transferring a full 16 gig card is finished in 12 minutes. If the EX1 is connected via USB to my computer, it takes 15 minutes to transfer. This is on my old HP z8000 laptop.

The EX-1 support is great in 4.6 but is lacking something HUGE.
                  1080p project settings.
I posted awhile back about this and it was noted that it was a technical
                  omision.

I had to called teach support yesterday about another issue and asked about
the 1080p support for the EX-1 and was told I should make a feature request
                  on the forum.
If there are any other EX-1 users shooting 1080 30p PLEASE chime in and let
support know that we need this project setting.
BTW.... wouldn't it be cool if you had the option to create your own custom
project settings? Maybe you can and I'm missing it.
                  Thanks

Maybe they'll surprise us and slip it into the V4.61 update that's supposed to be out soon.

                      No, we won't be.

As I said in another thread, there won't be any additional presets added to v4.x of EDIUS.

                        Kenneally,

Would it be possible to explain what the problem with a 1080 30p preset is?
Edius is so fast and advanced over some other editing options like FCP, but these others offer 1080p.
It's just hard to understand why it would need to be left out of the EX-1 support. while other progressive projects with different size and frame rate are supported. Thanks for the help.

If Kenneally or Brandon, or someone from support could explain the issue that would be very helpful.

I have no further information to add. We have only forwarded on what came from product development.

                              30p

I'd like to give this a little bump since I just got an EX-1 and bought Edius Broadcast for that reason. Any progress on editing in 30P ??
