With an Edius 4.6 project using exclusively AVCHD footage, is it possible to perform say simple cuts, add titles, then output back to AVCHD without having to rerender the whole timeline?
The whole timeline will still get rerendered - partly because of consistency, and partly because that's the downside of mixed-format editing, after decode (aside from MPEG-2 SegmentEncode-compliant situations), it's "just video" after being decoded, so any output will need to be recompressed to whatever your desired output format is.
After a search of recent posts I note that requests have been submitted to Canopus for enhanced support for AVCHD in both Edius and Procoder 3. Recent releases by Sony, Canon and Panansonic of AVCHD full HD 1080P camcorders and the ability of direct playback on Bluray I expect will increase demand for this format. The recent demise of HD DVD in favour of BD obviously now clears the way for BD burning tools perhaps with AVCHD in future versions of Edius.
