  • HD/SD capture confusion

I'm looking at upgrading to HD but still deliver in SD. Do I have to change my software (Edius 2.5) or can I convert in the camera from HD to SD before I capture? I want to convert to SD with my HD camera and then just edit as usual using Edius 2.5. I don't want to upgrade or get a new computer yet. I have Edius 4.6 on another computer and like it but I was wondering if I could use Edius 2.5 to edit "HD" in this workaround.

That depends on the camera -- some can downconvert in the camera itself, others cannot. Which camera do you own / consider getting?

The DV20 is a brilliant little camera, you can record in HDV and set it to play back through the Firewire in DV, which gives you the option of having your footage in HDV for possible future upgrade. or
It can be set to record in either 4x3 DV or 16x9DV
