Why I can't open mp3 and VOB files ?

not all mp3 are suitable and mp3 are not recommended for editing, you can convert them to stereo 16/48k wav in a blink of an eye using many tools such as Easy CD Extractor/File Converter from www.poikosoft.com or Soundforge9 or similar

VOB files are not video files, they are a container holding many things like video, one or more audio streams, subtitle streams AND AS A RESULT should not be placed on your timeline

you can use ProCoder express that came with your Edius to convert to Canopus DV etc, use it with Edius closed

You can also use "Disk Capture" from inside edius to extract the MPEG file from the disk providing it is not commercial and encrypted and then place this file on the timeline or convert with PC Express to AVI
