capturing problem`

i use the NHX-E2 baseboard, and a sony dsr-20 tape deck, the baseboard is hooked up via firewire to the deck and then svideo from the board to a monitor. for some odd reason the board does not capture anything, the function for that is shadowed out when i got to the capture menu, i tried reseating the board but nothing. the only parts on the board that work are the video out and audio out. the deck i have i used on a older canopus board it worked flawlessy. what could be the problem

What project setting are you in?

i used all the options, from the NHX-e2, s, dv, and composite along with the ohci sd ntsc, and none of them was able to read the player. and the format was dv 59.94i

i setup 2 other computers with the NHX-E2 board and i had no problems using the decks that went along with them

If this motherboard has on-board FireWire, then try that.
Try a different cable and deck.
Otherwise the NHX-E2 board's DV port might be broken.

okay just tried a new cable and that failed, tried the onboard fw port and that didnt work, i dont have an extra deck on hand, but it does work on my old dvrex board, so if the firewire port on the NHX-e2 is broken how do i go about getting a new one

Your best bet is to contact support - they can walk you through a diagnosis and arrange an RMA if necessary.
