  • Six Sata connectors

My new editing computer has six available Sata connectors. I will use one for the system drive (C), three for internal Sata drives (raid), one for an external Sata drive (for backup and archiving) and the last one for an external BlueRay burner/player. This looks too simple. What do you think?

JoJo - this possibility depends totally on the motherboard and on-board RAID controller you have. I've been dealing with the same problems, and got a bunch of helpful advise from this forum and the mobo tech support. If your mobo has an Intel on-board RAID controller, then it will set the "mode" for ALL of the SATA connectors, and you might not be able to mix RAID on one set and non-RAID on another. If your controller is an nVidia controller, then supposedly that controller lets you set each individial SATA connector independant of the others, and your combination will work swimmingly. Firstly, investigate your board and controller. That will at least give you an idea.
    Good luck and cheers,

Alan is so right, the intel controller on mine took me by surprise being used to the nvidea controllers.
At least my board had 2 controllers one a Gigabit that controlled 2 sata connectors and was able to be set so the Boot disk and DVD burner could be attached.
The other 6 connectors are on the Intel chip and I have set them to 3 sets of 2 drives in Raid 0 striped config other wise it would have been 6 individual drives.
