  • Question on Edius NX

I am interested in obtaining "live" HDV output and realize that I need an Edius NX card in order to achieve this. My computer has only one free PCI slot available as one of them apparently is housing the video card.

Here's my question and please let me know if I am correct. Can I conncect my HDV camcorder/deck directly from the NX card and use the component outputs from the camcorder to connect to my monitor to obtain a live output of my HDV footage? This way I do not need the extra card which comes with NX which has the component outputs?

    Thanks much

No, this isn't possible with HD - there's no possible way to obtain realtime HDV output via FireWire for your camera to convert to component output.

Last I checked, no NLE offers realtime HDV output via FireWire.

Ok thanks, so if my computer only has one free PCI slot, then I cannot use this card, is that correct>?

There are 3 different combinations available in NX boards

        -2 PCIe boards
-1 PCIe board and 1 PCI board
-1 PCIX board and 1 PCI board

Are you sure that none of the above fit in your system?

Not sure. I look at the back of my computer and there seems to be one slot available. It would seem from what you wrote that no matter which combination, wouldn't I need 2 available slots?

Yes in order to have the HD component output module you always need two available slots...
What type of computer do you have and what other boards are installed?
