  • Edius to FCP help

    Hello,

I'm wondering if someone can help me with this one. I have a project that was assembled in Edius on a PC. The director wants to finish it on FCP. The other editor did not export an EDL for me but instead gave me the Edius project files.

So I'm wonder if someone here can export an EDL for me if I FTP/email them the edius project file. As well as all the bins and clips. Does Edius export XML as well as EDL?

if so someone is willing to do this - which I'd imagine won't take too long. Please contact me off list at [email protected]

    Thanks very much!

I think its the FCP thing / verse the rest,I fined it difficial to do work for other companies around SA usesing any other software than FCP , these companies only view FCP or Avid as industry standard, I have proven in many cases that Edius and PPro CS2 can do the same job ,in edius case faster and better out put, but old habits died hard............

Geez, guys. This is someone seeking information and a little professional courtesy regarding Edius. I don't see where they were engaging as to why people use FCP or whether there are really any merits of using FCP vs other applications. Sometimes to make no response is the appropriate thing.

Chi Ho, I don't see anything in terms of XML support. I've never exported/imported/used EDLs, so I can't really be of any help in that regard - I glanced at the export options and it looks like you'd need to know what you're doing. I can say, from having been around the forums for a while, that I have never seen (noticed) any positive information regarding Edius EDL features and interoperability, but I do remember seeing problems posted from time to time. I think that there may be (or was at some time) missing functionality in terms of media or track identification. Perhaps someone who uses EDLs and knows whether this is the case or not could respond.

I was curious as to why Edius could not be used. Perhaps there is a valid reason. Perhaps it is just personal choice. Like I said I was curious.

I apologize. I could have made my post without editorializing.

I'm not the signal-to-noise police, and you can certainly respond to requests for assistance with whatever questions you like. Offering my opinion on the appropriateness of the previous posts was only adding to what I was complaining about.

Yes, but Apple FinalCutPro does not import AAF unfortunately...

Has this issue been resolved? I'm in the same situation editing offline on Edius and the other person will do the final cut on FCP.

Is there any way without using Third-Party software?

Edius looks great so far and it gives the option to import FCP XML I don't understand why it can't export an appropriate EDL that can be read by FCP or Premiere even... when opening it in text it has no mention of 'file names' just timecodes and numbers... still looking online for possible solutions so far no luck...

                    Help?

                    Thanks in advance

I really hope the next big release (6 - whenever that may be) has XML support.

I often work with people who edit on different systems. Usually FCP or Premiere. Sometimes AVID.

Now that Premiere CS5 has xml support it looks like it will be more practical thing for a PPCS5 editor to work on a project with another editor using FCP.

AVID MC 5 is around the corner and it has support for FCP, or so I have been told. My God, I really do hope we see interoperability between various editing systems within the next couple of years. They finally did it with the audio engineering side of things. I would LOVE to see it happen with Video editing side. That way people can just edit on there preferred system and still be able to output a project for another editor to finish or whatever.
