  • Thinking of buying Edius, couple questions?

    Hello
I'am thinking of getting another editing program and i have a couple of questions.
I work on a Dell Precision M6300 laptop and I have the Premiere Pro CS3 /Aspect HD(CS3 Production Suite) but it's kinda heavy on the resources. It works but I'd like something that's a little leaner for editing.
I'am looking at Vegas 8 Pro or Edius Pro, both are good programs but I like the way Edius feels. I've looked through the forum, but I want to get a little clearer picture.
    1) Does Edius Pro Have any issues working with the Canon XH A1? (30F,24F, etc.)
    2) I know the 4.54 upgrade is free for 4.0 owners (which is nice, thank you) but will any upgrades like 4.6 or UP to 5 have to be a payed upgrade? ( I'am not asking when 4.6 will be released, just wondering about upgrade costs)
    3) Minor issue. Any issues working with Nvidia Quadro cards (Quadro FX1600m) I might need to know about? (recommended drivers?)
    4) Minor question, is Procoder Express good enough? (Should I think about getting Procoder or Sorenson)

    Thanks for your time.

    1: See my signature I use an A1, HV20 and Sony FX1
2: Can not answer only GV know this but I would happily pay if required, for the best HI Def editing program on the market. Came from Premier / Vagas / Media Studio Pro and never looked back as I guess you will find
3: the only issue with nvidea cards and Edius in software only is with the 8800GTX where Direct draw does not play properly with Canopus HQ (Horizontal Jitter) not just in Edius but in any program that uses direct draw so could be a nvidea problem. 6 and 7 thousand series cards do not exhibit this problem and is overcome by using Direct 3D9 in Edius
Try the free Edius download to get a feel on your lap top, I use a Toshiba P100 with a T2400 dual core and it handles HDV very well, the faster the better.
4: Procoder Express is excellent, better than the MPEG encoder in Premier, but if you want the real best get Procoder 3 and its mastering quality is unsurpassed especially from HDV, takes a lot longer to encode though.
    Hope this helps

4.6 Is a free upgrade for 4.x owners.

Although you will need to upgrade to Edius Broadcast (About $400 if you are an Edius 4 user) to have support for P2, XDCAM, and the upcoming XDCAM EX, HDV formats are supported without a problem in Edius 4.x Pro

P.S. Thought I'd add, I like the international feel of this forum, don't know why but I do.
Australia, Iceland, US, etc., I like it.

Edius 4.0 owners will receive free updates within the version number.
So 4.XX will be free whatever XX might be.

We only need to pay for the next version upgrade such as 5.0 or 6.0 etc...
This is how it is at the moment, could change in the future.

Actually, that's not a definite, iron-clad policy. It just happens to be based on historical evidence. This policy can change at any time.

That said, v4.6 will absolutely remain free of charge.
