I like Edius 3.5. I have not edited the Panasonic HD P2 format yet. I am debating about upgrading my Premiere Pro vs upgrading Edius 3.5. Pro to Edius Brocadcast. The Edius upgrade will be more money but there is another issue. I think Adobe supports 10 bit and has great integration with AE and Audition. I am half tempted to get the CS complete package. Form what I understand Premiere Pro and AE are decent when using the Panasonic HD P2 format. I like both Premiere and Edius. This is a tough decision. I can almost see the CS4 suite being 64 bit before Edius 5. I think Edius has had some nice features added like the DVD authoring. I wish I could get a sneak peak at Edius 5 before I decide to go HD. I think I will be purchasing my equipment and software after taxes. I will try the trial version of both programs when I actually get the equipment but any info would be weclomed.

This has been asked a bunch of times :)
I think your best bet is to try both of the Demos. Edius has a 4.5 demo, fully functional for 30 days.
I don't think there is any info for Edius 5, maybe at NAB (few months away), nobody knows.
At the moment, I have Edius 4.54 and it's my choice of NLE, even though I have FCP and Premiere Pro CS3. I choose Edius over these 2.
Each application has it's strength and weaknesses, so nothing is perfect. Find something that will fit your needs.

After working in the Panasonic booth at NAB and seeing all of the other P2 solutions, I think I can safely say that Edius has everyone beat hand down when it comes to P2 implementation and workflow.
Now whether the benefits of the Edius workflow and realtime advantages outweigh some of the more robust features in Premiere (on any other NLE for that matter) would be your personal decision.
If you are in no hurry to upgrade, I personally would wait for this years NAB. Most companies introduce new products/features or at least give some kind of idea of what they have coming out in the following months. If you are able to attend the show, it is a great place to actually try all of the different products and make an educated decision.

Thanks guys. I hear you both loud and clear. It seems the PP CS3 and Edius will both work but Edius has more horse power. I thought that would be the case. The CS 3 suite just looks like a good deal. If Premiere Pro were true RT like Edius I would get the CS3 suite for sure but the RT of Edius is awesome. I wish the Edius GUI looked more Like Premiere Pro and FCP.

For quick accurate dialog and SFX editing Cool Edit (or Audition v1.5) is still the best.System 1 - Win7 64/Edius 5.51/Asus P8/8Gb RAM/RAID0/i7 2600K OC/nVidia Quadra 600
System 2 - Win XP/Edius v4.61/Asus P5 DH Deluxe/4Gb RAM/RAID0/Quad Core 2.4Ghz Q6600/nVidia 9800GT 512Mb/NXHD + other stuff

I think Audtion is the best audio program on the market. It works great with my Premiere Pro 1.0. That is one major reason I want to get the CS3 bundle. I like the Premiere Pro GUI much better than Edius. Edius is not bad with dual monitors but Avid Liquid, FCP and even Premiere change the source monitor into the effects control pallet saving space when editing effects like a PIP. Edius has a seperate GUI for the PIP that still looks like a Premiere 6.0 plugin. I like Edius but I also like the CS3 bundle? It will be a tuff desion when I get my P2 camera. I will wait till after NAB before I decide. Both Premiere and Edius should get an update of some kind at NAB. I have had Vegas, Avid Liquid and Even Ulead over the last 6 years. Since buying my Storm Card back in 2001 I have liked both Premiere and Edius best. I even liked Storm Edit better than the competition.

I know I have to either get Edius Broadcast or the CS3 suite soon if I want to edit the P2 format. Perhaps GV and Adobe will have good deals during NAB.

That does not mean it is better than Audition. It simply means it is more compatible with Edius. With PP I can make changes in Audition and the changes update in Premiere with out exporting because of the Dynamic Link. There is no exporting. The same holds true for AE. You RAM Preivew you AE project and then open it in PP and render it only once rather than render an AVI an importing the AVI into PP. This way you can always make adjustments in Audition, AE and other Adobe software with out rendering and exporting.

I think we are on topic still. Someone is just pointing out that Edius might work better with another audio program than Audition. That is good to know. I have felt that Edius was week on the audio side. For video Edius can not be beat but no one can deny the Dynamic Link between PP, AE, Encore, PhotoShop etc. For me it is a choice between Edius Broadcast and the CS3 suite. Vegas, Avid and FCP are not even on my radar as viable P2 solution. I admit there is nothing wrong with Avid or FCP I just like Edius an the SC3 suite better. I may have to get both sooner or later.Last edited by medeamajic; 01-25-2008, 12:37 AM.
