Solid state drives would be quick enough. How many minutes of HQ into 64GB (not much) :)
Steve, I'll get back to you on that ok. :)

Don't forget that for comfortable work with video, you need fast hard drives, even RAID. Laptops are not ready for real work with video, sorry. Try to think about 5400 rpm drive for HDV capturing...

As long a Mark is paying for the test cost is not an issue :)

The points you make are valid one . It makes more sense getting a second desktop.

    The prohibitive factors are:
    1. Cost
    2. Portability (I believe it requires its own power)
    3. Compatibility
#3 is a major issue because the multi-slot boxes introduce a PCI (now PCIe) bridge between the slot's interface and the cards in it.

Back when cards used video overlay exclusively, sometimes this mean the overlay "didn't make it" to the video card, resulting in no overlay.

Now with D3D overlay, this may not be an issue, assuming the timing and other requirements are met.

They have the two slot one.

If you send me a magma I'll try it and answer your questions "Maybe it can be done?":)
(the 2 slot one cost almost the same as the nx.)
