That depends on whether you want professional video cameras like HDX202 or the normal consumer video camera & still cameras?

For the professional range - I use SENSYS (www.sensys.com.sg).

SxS was developed in cooperation with Sandisk.

And Fujifilm has announced that they would start selling P2 cards starting this quarter.

P2 cards by Fujifilm - let's see how much they are going to charge ... I am not that hopeful that you will see a price war erupting. P2 cards and SxS are premium products.

P2 cards hold 4 SDHC cards inside that are ZERO DEFECTS - meaning they are the A++ top of line chips - cream of the cream chips. You can't buy any zero defects SDHC anyway in the consumer market.

I don't have internal details of the SxS cards - but the price per gigabyte are about the same.

I've tested both the Panny HVX200 and the Sony EX1 and the latter is clearly a better camera in practical terms, especially for long-form recording. The HVX has nice colors and a good recording format, but lacks detail to an extent which is obvious by comparison to the Sony. The Sony yields more real resolution with better depth of field and more low light sensitivity, costs less per hour of recording capacity and transfers footage faster to a computer. The long-GOP recording and rolling shutter result in some compromises, but no more so than Panasonic's low-resolution sensor and over-priced, outdated P2 memory.

Panasonic should respond with an AVC-intra camera but that won't help much if they can't come up with a higher-resolution sensor, which they don't seem to have even in their expensive cameras. People who like the look of footage from the HVX may not be impressed by the EX1, but it still puts the pressure on Panasonic to come up with a significant response.

I will wait for this year's NAB before drawing any conclusion. I am sure Panny is "sweating" away in their labs right now. All of Panny's products so far are revolutionary in their design - they don't follow any competitor's products (the "me too" concept). So - can wait for NAB to see what product will Panny unveil to succeed the HVX200.

If you want a "cheap and good" solution - try this ... Canon XL-AH - tap the HD-SDI output - it will blast HVX200 lightyears away :-). It might be aging - but, the SDI port output is so sharp ...

The Canon XH-A1 doesn't have HD-SDI outputs: for that you have to get the XH-G1 for around $7K MSRP. And while the HVX200 was revolutionary the memory card design and price has been a significant stumbling block for many, plus that was unnecessary given advances in CompactFlash at the time the camera was being designed. Maybe someday Canon will release an inexpensive HD camera using CompactFlash and blow both Sony and Panasonic out of the water in terms of memory card pricing - but Sony is already there with the new Z7U. Both P2 and SXS memory are unnecessary for standard HD video recording, and only benefit users slightly for a huge increase in cost.

But I digress. By all accounts Edius is great for working with the HVX200... :-)
