Very Strange Thing with Edius

First:
In the Bin root folder I created folders with different names
Then I imported mxf files into those folders which I named according to the location.
The long file names I renamed (F2)
When I started this morning not only the folders were gone but also the files had the names before I renamed them.
Second: I have a lot of .mov clips created in Firestore.
I imported them into the bin. In the clip there was no image but when I clicked on it with an instant Edius was gone. Not only that.....when I wanted to start the program again, the hourglass was activated for a few seconds and then nothing happen.
To open Edius again, I had to reboot.
I suspected some virus and I run a virus check-but none.
Any idea what could have caused that strange behaviour?
I have never seen a program closing that fast!

With Panasonic HVX 200 and Firestore FS 100 set to Quicktime.
Is it normal when you rename a file in the Bin, that it does not keep the new filename?
I don't see any option to save the file/folder names.

Did you import the clips using P2 Select, or did you manually add the MXF files directly to the Bin?

If you can, you should use P2 Select to ensure that all the pieces of the files are properly linked.

Clip names in the Bin are virtual, renaming in the Bin will not rename the physical file on the disk.

Yip that is why I asked what the camcorder was because a lot of users don't read up on the workflow of their camcorders and import in the wrong way.

If you work with the native P2/MXF format, then yes, P2 Select is the right tool.

However, the Focus Enhancements FS-100 can also record in QuickTime containers using DVCProHD. Those files should simply be copied off the FS-100 and added to the Edius bin.

One drawback here is that the FS-100 has a hybrid implementation of the FAT32 file system -- rather than being limited to a maximum 4GB file size, it breaks up the recording into 2GB chunks, which you can get reach every two minutes or so with DVCProHD at 100Mbps. You therefore wind up with alot of relatively small files that aren't connected in any way using metadata, something that isn't a problem if you record MXF files.

Anyway, if you rename a QuickTime file in the bin, the new name should stick.

If the FS-100 is set to record QuickTime files, then that's what you get -- standalone MOVs, not MXFs. I don't think P2 Select would know what to do with them.

Yes, the output on Firestore were mov files. Those I imported in the bin and those did not show any image in the thumbnail and made Edius crash.
What I mentioned before when I lost the Subfolder as well as the renamed file those where mxf files which I recorded on my P2 card and imported to the Bin via Capture>P2 Select.
Sorry for not being clear about it.
However: Lucky I still had my files inside the Firestore so I copied them again to the computer. I don't know how Firestore writes the files, but my clips are never longer than 1 min, so the filesize is not an issue.

Now my interest would be that if it is possible to create subfolders from the root menu in the bin>import the mxf files to one subfolder>rename the mxf files and keep those subfolders as well as the renamed files?
I noticed before, when I color coded mxf files, when I exit and then start again all color coding was gone.

The only thing I can think of is that Edius didn't have a chance to save the new files names when you renamed them before it crashed / you rebooted.

Regarding DVCProHD QuickTimes files on the PC, please be aware that Apple doesn't support this codec under Windows, nor on a Mac that doesn't have the DVCProHD components from FCP/FCS installed.

Edius happens to be able to open the files because it uses QuickTime internally and it also provides its own DVCProHD codec, but if you try to process those files outside of Edius or just try to play them using the QuickTime Player, it won't work.

I was experimenting a bit and it seems to me, the only way to save those folders and files = save project.
OK, it may keep my subfolders there where I want them.....but how about the files names to have them changed permanently? So when I open Edius or just the drive to see what is where.
