How does Anti Flicker work?

I have evening shots of buildings lit and the lights flicker quite strong. I put the Anti Flicker Filter in the timeline set the slider to max 100 and I don't see any changes.
How can I remove the flicker which is rather disturbing?

Re-shoot the buildings and then adjust your shutter to the cycle or near the cycle (HZ) of the current in your country.


For example in my country the cycle is 60 HZ. When I shoot in an office where they have tons of fluorescent lights. Everything flickers like crazy. I just turn my shutter on and adjust until they stop flickering.
Usually between 58 and 60.

Thank you, but unfortunately, the flickering shots I did in Beijing...... I just can not reshoot them now.

That's not what the Antiflicker filter is designed for.

The Antiflicker filter in Edius is designed to reduce flicker resulting from horizontal edges in interlaced video. It does not reduce temporal flicker that results from a framerate that isn't matched to the AC cycle rate.

This is something you see immediately in the view finder and is one of those things to fix in camera and not post .

If I am not wrong you can fix this in After Effects.

great!! It works well. I does not remove the flicker completely, but reduces it to a level which is not disturbing. Thank you.

also, try and see how high you can go before it looks artificial

I have used up to 50% on locked off shots, especially night shots, and 50% removes all grain

wonderful Anton! But does it not blur the image?
All shots are locked, but there is traffic on the street as well as sometimes zooming.

yes, movement will be blurred, however, if movement is slow, it will look fine, see QueenMary2

In this thread and removing the flicker and especially your comments Anton about grain, what is meant by "locked off shot" ??

"Locked off" means that the camera is on a tripod in a fixed position with no panning or zooming.

So I take it with panning/zooming this filter is compromised? If so, I'm in trouble then, I have a hard time keeping my hands off the stick (pan/tilt) and zoom controller :o)
