  • Catastrophic failure on undo plus encode

I have been getting a "random" "Catastrophic Failure" notice when, after some editing time (which seems to vary in length of time) I cannot use "undo" or encode for export to MP4. I have emptied my temp folder and have the next-to-latest EDIUS build installed.
I am able to use "undo" for a while if I reload the project, then the error occurs again. I have searched the forum, but most hints point to a full temp folder, which I have emptied. I can generate an error report if helpful.

Tobe, do you have a shortcut folder on the desktop for both temp files?
If not, look in my signature for the Windows tweaks. It's the first tweak in the pdf.
I empty every time my system finishes startup. If I'm doing a major project, I will empty it along the way.

Setting " Storage Sense " in WIN 10 does a reasonable job of cleaning files.

        Thanks, Jerry...
I do have that folder and did empty it (I admit ignoring it for a bit)...So far it's been OK three hours into an edit day.
        Thanks for the reminder.

Do you understand why an un-emptied Temp file affects "Undo" as well as exporting? Are there other functions that stop as well?

The temp files could have consumed too much space. The system could have just had a brain f*rt and was confused. Then there is the time that the temp file is being stored and the actual file is being completed that there could have been an issue. Maybe this is where the undo issue came in.
When was the last time you optimized your system drive? I'm pretty sure you have at least an SSD.

Likely the drive has not been "optimized" since George dame installed EDIUS 9 a few years back.

If you haven't done any system maintenance since George built the system, it might be worth having him do a remote service call just to tidy things up.
